There are numerous good lures including the two you mentioned . Spinnerbaits , crankbaits , floating minnows.  The list goes on and on .

Joel... Waters south of Interstate 80 fish like Missouri waters, north of I-80 fish as Minnestota waters; where in Iowa and what types of water are you fishing?

I believe we are in pre-spawn right now and it seems more lures are working.  A few weeks ago the best lure for me was a jerk bait but the temps were about 10 degrees cooler.

Right now my favorite lure is the Strike King Red Eye Shad.  I like to use the Orange Craw color.  I've caught a few on a chatterbait, square bill crankbait and Rapala DT6.  Last week I noticed they were biting on spinnerbaits more.

I'm in Ames. Been catching a ton on black arkie style jigs, squarebills, BPS, swimbaits, Rapala DT-6, drop shot finesse worms, and a few on a 1/16 weighted Texas rigged senko. It's the time of year to tie on a jig and hunt for a PB.
