robbiez111 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 So i fish jigs in all situations and fish texas rigged plastics if i punching grass. But when would i use a punching jig instead of a texas rig? and vice versa. or put a skirt on a texas rigged plastic? Thinking clearer water go more natural with plain texas rig and if dirtier water go with jig or punch skirt to disperse more water? Maybe i answered my own question or maybe im a idiot haha. didnt see any other articles about this so thought i would ask you experts. Thanks Rob Quote
Turtle135 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Greg Hackney (Bass Master Elite Series Pro) will try to use a punching jig whenever he can as he feels he will get more of those bass into the boat after he hooks them. However a texas rigged punching bait will go in and out of that heavy cover cleaner. I too lean towards using a jig whenever I can get it in and out of that cover with out collecting weeds. Quote
bma3 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Personally, I always prefer a T-Rig because like Turtle135 said, it goes in and out of grass and mat much smoother, making my day a whole lot easier. Sometimes I will put one of those tungsten weights the the skirt on it if I think it is necessary. 2 Quote
RichF Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 Jig, jig, and more jig. Less working parts = less rigging time = more fishing! 1 Quote
Scarborough817 Posted April 21, 2017 Posted April 21, 2017 i lean towards a jig because where i fish doesn't have mats we only really have pad beds so i don't need to punch through it just find a hole. now i still use a t-rig at times because i just like fishing it but i find a jig can be a little more versatile and if there are rocks under that pad bed i might not get hung up as easy Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 22, 2017 Super User Posted April 22, 2017 If ya can't vet a jig in & out cleanly it's operator error! Ya need the right jig I use both in all situations & let the bass decide Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 24, 2017 Super User Posted April 24, 2017 I use both. It depends on the type of vegetation I am punching through, and what the bass want. 1 Quote
