Thanks for the info. I think I am going to stay put on equipment for a while.  In the last 18 months I have sold off 3 baitcasting rods, two spinning rods one spinning reel, a spincast reel and 6 baitcasting reels. After all of that, I own 4 new combos with very upgraded rods, 6 new reels and two new spinning combos for my wife.  I think it is time to take a break for a while.  I will sayI love all of the Daiwas and the rods from Powell, Irod, and Dobyns.

I hear that!! I'm in the same boat, I am slowly getting rid of my older rods and reels to make room for higher end tackle. I can honestly say you get what you pay for with rods and reels!

Today the rods and reels that cost between $100 and $200 are some of the highest quality and that is the most competitive part of the market.  The quality and performance is equal to much of what was being sold for twice that just a few years ago.  There is still a difference in s $200 reel and a $400 reel, but not as much as there has been in the past.

 

It is easy to pick a mid priced reel, like a Tatula CT, Curado I, Lews Speed Spool( pick a version) and match it to a light weight, sensitive, well balanced rod for around $300.  It will perform terrific and catch a lot of fish for you.
