fromTHEbank Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Hello People of MD! I have a Hobie Pro Angler and have only fished Black Hills. I would like to try the Potomac but don't know where to go. I live in Germantown and would prefer somewhere in that area. Anyone know any good spots to put in? I use a trailer and would like to use a boat ramp. Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted April 19, 2017 Super User Posted April 19, 2017 Welcome aboard! Nice ride Several NoVA/MD yakkers on the forums. I'm sure someone will chime in soon. Quote
S10rman88 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 I have only recently started going out in my kayak but Rileys Lock has a boat ramp and I launch out of there on most days. Can't speak for how good the fishing is on the main river in that area as I have mostly stuck to the creek and the areas around the mouth while I get used to the kayak. Quote

Mattawoman Creek, Me and my buddy used to go there with Kayaks all the time, till we both got boats lol Great fishing from kayaks, you can get into the lily pads and see huge bass on a good day. 1 Quote
Turtle135 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Rileys Lock does have some good fishing but IMHO the best fishing there (down river in Seneca Breaks) is not mirage drive friendly. Edwards Ferry also has a boat ramp with decent smallmouth bass fishing up and down river from the launch. Super User Choporoz Posted April 19, 2017 Super User Posted April 19, 2017 Thanks for the info, Turtle. How's the current in that area? I've never been above the falls. Can you work up and back, or is a float trip best? Quote
fromTHEbank Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 Thanks everyone for responding! Like I said, been only to one lake and never on a river with my kayak.Worried about getting in the right spot and not ruining me yak, plus I don't want to die going down some rapids or whatever the river has to offer a newbie. If anyone wants to get out there sometime just PM me or if you have any tips, I'm down for any help I can get. Quote
