For you guys that fish them, what's your favorite color? Do you prefer the poppers or plain frogs? I was always a black or white frog guy, then @gardnerjigman started regularly giving me a beat down from the back of the boat with a Cricket Frog Popping Pad Crasher so I had to get one. Man does that bait catch fish! I had my best day ever on one of the local lakes, with all of my 5 biggest fish of the day on that frog. Now I've gone and got the Aquafrog, Ole Smokey, and Sunburn to try this year. The poppers work best for me because we have such little vegetation, they're easier to fish nice and slow and keep in any openings for a longer period of time.

Curious what others prefer as far as color and popper vs standard frog?

Open water get the Popping Pad Crasher ; for fishing on top of or through vegetation get the standard Pad Crasher .

As for colors the Cricket color is great - you have to try the Sunburn color which Jason Christie uses regularly (it imitates baby birds and other rodents well) . Additional colors I like are Kuro (black & red is growing in popularity as a frog color) , Ole Smokey (cool looking  transparent grey imitates shad , mouse - bass can't quite figure out what it is as it's translucent ) , Aqua Frog and Shad Frog (I like these in the Popping Pad Crasher to imitate shad) ... Hope this helps !

I fish these almost exclusively when I am frogging.

I use all three, the regular size, the popping, and the jr. one

I would have to say I use the regular sized one about 85% of the time, in all kinds of conditions. The popping one tends to get the call in low light, light cover situations, when there is a slight breeze, or stain to the water and I feel the popping mouth will draw an extra  bite or two. I get bit in the same conditions with the regular one, but it seems I get a few more on the popping one. I use the little one in ultra clear water, or if the are slapping and not taking the bigger one.

One trick to get them to fish matted grass better, is to stuff some hunks of used Yum dingers into the body. It will "push" the frog down into the mat a little better.  Spro's used to be my go to mat frog because of there weight/density, but since I started adding those chunks of used plastic to the Pad Crasher, I have had the same results as I always had with the Spro's.

I use four colors:

Shad Frog

Dart Frog

Cricket Frog

Bull Frog

I like the Cricket and the Aqua too. Is there a better frog for the price than the Pad Crasher? I don't know of one.

I haven't found one. I'll be trying the new Savage Gear popping frog this year, but it's going to be hard to top the Pad Crasher.

i need to pick up a couple new frogs this year.  I will have to give one of these a try.

When is the best time to start throwing them?  Is it too early in the season?

i use i use white, green, and black. im reffering to the belly, since thats what the fish sees.

i almost only use the normal frog, popping frogs never have really been good to me.

Similar here. Black or white bottom non popping version are my colors. I use frogs more for the vegetation and less in open water except for edges of vegetation.

I was doing OK with the Lunker version in Croaker color I had. But a leg got bit off last time out and after emailing Lunker I find that you can't get replacement legs. :annoyed1:

I did just get, as a gift, a River2sea Dahlberg Diver Frog. I took it out once so far and fished it just a little bit. Its different, not so sure its my cup of tea but it might be a good change one day.

Black popper produces best most of the time for me. I also like sunburn and another color with a yellow belly that I can't remember. I had never used the all white frog until you sent it to me for fishmas. I will be giving it a go in the next month

I usually use the popper, but I have both. Depends on what I want to accomplish. If I want some extra water displacement I go popper. The nice thing about the popper version is that it is just as easy to walk as a regular frog if you don't want to pop it.

If I want to stay away from the red mouth which the popper has then I go with the regular.

Colors are simple. Cricket, White/Black, Black/Yellow, Aqua Frog

They make an excellent frog at a great price.

i like to fish frogs in open water if its shallow, alot of time i find that that silent twitching along the top can be better than the splash of a popper,

Ever since the Sizmic Poppin Toad, I've taken a real shine to "popping" frogs (that one was discontinued)

Popping gives slow coverage, so to extemd coverage I also use the front-face to plow about 18",

sort of a "plow-&-pause" retrieve. Strikes normally occur about 1/2 sec into the start of a new plow.

Today my 2 favorite frogs are the 'Booyah Popping Pad Crasher' & 'Spro Bronzeye Popping Frog'

I've always said jokingly that froggers prove that lure color isn't that important,

they either choose 'black' or 'white' but not much in between. I go down the middle and pick a frog

with a yellowish or greenish underside and never give color another thought.

All my Popping Pad Crashers are 'bullfrog' and all my Bronzeye Popping Frogs are 'green tree'

On days when I do exceptionally good or exceptionally bad, I need a better reason than color.

Gotta love the cricket! Only difference between front and back of the boat now is leg length. Hate those dang things.

Love the pad crashers, I have several colors and varieties but most of the time I like the standard pad crasher jr in black. I typically only go black and white for frogs but I have had some luck with bluegill/shad colored frogs. I'm so ready to throw the frog around there isn't a more thrilling way to catch a bass for me.

I mostly use the junior pad crashers and the popping version.  The junior is usually skipped underneath docks (they seem to skip better than the poppers) and when the water is slick calm and clear, and the poppers are fished when fishing open water especially when there's a breeze or muddy water.  I don't fish heavy muck often, but when I do I prefer the standard sized pad crasher with a couple bbs inside it for added weight.

I keep the color selection simple, either dart frog or cricket frog.  Cricket frog gets the most use.

I've had a ton of success with both the regular and popping version, and have almost every color they make. Best one for me by far has been the Aqua Frog popping one. Caught my biggest bass of last year on it, a 20" hog and she slammed it! They're really the only frog I throw now.

Bullfrog and aqua work well for me just bought the sunburn one but have to say it doesn't feel as soft as the other ones I bought a while back. My friend uses the albino one as his go to , great baits I only buy them when dsg does the bogo or other good deals on them since they seem to last forever
