chmeyers Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 I need some suggestions on what you all prefer for glasses. I do all of my fishing from the bank or kayak, and I am in somewhat clear water to murky water. Currently I have 2 pair of Costa's one pair with the blue lens and one pair with the gray lens. They're good but I feel there is something better. I would love to hear some ideas of what you all use, like and do not like. Thanks Quote
iiTzChunky Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 I have a pair of polarized Ravens sunglass that I've been wearing. The difference is night and day. I don't think it matters as long as there polarized. Quote
Jtrout Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Pair of oakleys with prizm lenses is what i buy put them on the tool truck account Quote
Super User flechero Posted April 19, 2017 Super User Posted April 19, 2017 quality glasses are incredible... wish i figured that our 20 years earlier! I must of gone through 100 pairs of $10 Bill Dance and strike king glasses before I bought some good orvis glasses with glass lenses. Wow what a difference good glass makes!!! (although they quit making those in glass now they are a high tech acrylic I think.) I wear amber year round on the water- it's a better contrast for me and doesn't wash out the color. I also see further/better underwater with amber. I understand there are some great "non-glass" options out there now but I'm still wearing a 10 year old pair of glass lenses. lol Quote
NorthwestBasser Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Better than Costa? This can't be possible... my brain hurts Quote
j bab Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Are your costas glass or plastic lenses? I'm with @NorthwestBasser - nothing beats costa 580G 1 Quote

Blue for bright sunny days, Amber for low light, overcast situations... 4 hours ago, iiTzChunky said: I have a pair of polarized Ravens sunglass that I've been wearing. Oh it matters, a $14 dollar pair of polarized sunglasses is like being blind compared to a quality pair of polarized sunglasses (costa). There are a few things where you really do get what you pay for, in my opinion, matresses and polarized fishing glasses are two of those such things. And that's not a knock on your Ravens by the way, I've never tried them and have no opinion good or bad on those particular glasses, I'm just saying not all polarized glasses are created equal Quote
chmeyers Posted April 19, 2017 Author Posted April 19, 2017 My Costa's are the 580G, I have the blue and gray lens. I bought a pair of cheap Calcuttas with a blue lens and felt like I could see alot more in the water, but the glasses were horribly uncomfortable. I have been curious of the Oakley Prizm or the Smith Optics Chromapop. Quote
BassB8Caster Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Im a fan of Oakleys (have to be polarized though). To me they are expensive glasses. Have never tried costas, maui jim etc. My current pair of oakleys are the five squared. Paid $85 for them. fit me great. are nice and light and work well. I really cannot compare those to the others. I just ordered a pair of the Strike King S11 (got them for $15). They are polarized and have great reviews. I agree that the fit matters. Uncomfortable glasses can give you headaches and bother you all day. whats the sense? For those of you who swear by these glasses with glass lenses, are they much heavier that say Oakleys? Is it a big noticible difference when wearing them? Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Glass is supposed to be clearer than plastic on the costas. I use Strike King S11 Okeechobee glasses with an amber/green lens which is my favorite lens. Seems to work well for me in most lighting for visibility in the water. These are 40 dollar glasses and prefer them over my Wiley X's. 1 Quote
BassB8Caster Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 what i like about the oakley's ive used, is that i can wear them under any conditions (besides dark obviously). Even as light starts to diminish, they dont get really dark. they really help reduce glare. So i can still see really well on cloudy days. 1 Quote

Can't wait to try em' on! 1 Quote

You never expect much comfort from 30 or 40 dollar glasses so it was a nice surprise. 1 Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 Oakley Prizm Shallow Water is the way to go. Every bit as good as the Costa green (I have them in 580 glass so can confidently make the comparison). Where I give Oalkey the edge is they don't have the PIA Costa fogging problem and have a better variety of sporting frame options. Oakley sport frames stick to your head. Costas are hit or miss, mine slide off constantly. Quote
jb530 Posted April 19, 2017 Posted April 19, 2017 i really like the Smith's with Chromapop lenses, but i've never tried a pair from Costa so i can't really compare the two. I've always heard good things about both Quote

I use to be a huge oakley person, then to me they got way off base with trying design crazy glasses, but the Prizms, seemed like a good option. 1 Quote
Derek Petter Posted May 30, 2017 Posted May 30, 2017 I currently own the Oakley Prizm shallow water glasses and I have to say they are the best, most vibrant glasses I have ever used. Quote
