First, no, I've not called St. Croix yet, and I plan to

tomorrow unless someone has already gone through

this and can put my question to rest.

I've been mulling over the "upgrade" plan, sending in

my 6'3" MLXF LT Walleye rod for replacement - broke

the tip last summer - but as I've thought about it, I

was going to ask St. Croix if I can actually "downgrade"

to two Premier spinning rods plus the difference.

My guess is they won't do it...

You may ask why I'm considering such a drop in rod

quality... Well, I've picked up a 6' MLF Premiere and

am really enjoying it, especially the length. I really do

prefer shorter rods, even if by 3"....

And while I do love the LT, I doubt I'll buy something

that expensive and nice (rod-wise) again. Hurt like the

dickens when I broke it.

Not saying I'm *gonna* do it, just pondering it and

wondering if anyone else here has downgraded with

St. Croix (if even possible).

I just broke a 7ft ul Avid and was thinking of doing the same.  Now we wait to see who will call first...

I broke my legend tournament and swore I could buy another for the price. I bought a couple of mojo series and have been every bit as happy. Breaking the LT was my fault so I didn't pursue the warranty though I'm sure they would have done something. Did you register the rod with at st croix? Chances are they might just replace it for you or allow you to upgrade at a discount.

I doubt that they will allow you to downgrade... But I guess it's worth a shot

Yes, fully registered. I'm doubting the downgrade, too, but

keeping hope nonetheless... :)

The LT was actually an upgrade from an Avid....

Definitely won't let you downgrade.

Been there, done that...They will say no. I broke a 7 MH/F Avid casting rod, wanted to "downgrade" to a 7' MH Mojo, they said no... they would only replace it with another Avid, or upgrade me to a LTB, LEX, or LE.

Thanks. That's what I was looking for. Saves me a call.

Guess I'll end up replacing it eventually, when I have a

spare $85 + $15 s&h laying around...<_<

I have a broken Leg Tourn, Leg Extre, and a Rage packaged and ready to ship.  I feel your pain...

Yep. Word of warning...the Plano Bazooka telescoping rod tubes suck:(

I can also confirm they will not let you "downgrade".  They also will not let you trade in two lower level rods against a singe higher level series (i.e. 2 Avids for credit against one Legend Elite).

Poolshark,

If you still have the broken LTB, they will cover it under the warranty even if it was your fault.  It will cost you $85, plus the $15 for the FedEx shipping label via their website.  But that is still a far cry less than $260 for a new one, and still cheaper than the Mojo and Premier rods.

Holy cow at that Plano tube.  You might as well use a hard case for golf clubs instead, which you can also fill up with your other fishing gear.
