BASS fisherman Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 An old post of mine: I might be buying a boat soon, and want to know how to check the compression on the motor? A member of the bass club Im going in is selling a 16 foot Hydro sports Bass Boat with a 110 Evenrude outboard on it, For $1000. What other tips can you give someone who is purchasing their first bass boat? I have been informed that the boat needs a little work, but that is fine depending on what it is. I do reupholstery for a living, so anything regarding the seats or carpet, or any deck/wood work is do-able, and expected. I got an email today from the guy selling the above bass boat. Only know he needs to get rid of it, and wants to know if I WANT it, as in fo FREE! Yup I said it, FREE!!! I got me a bass boat. It needs some work, a trolling motor and batteries for it, a cover, and maybe a few other things, but for free, you just can't argue with that price. He even is willing to bring it to my house since I don't have a trailer hitch yet. So LBH, I got my boat. And I cant wait to get it to start working on it. It is starting to all fall into place, and in no time soon if all goes well, Ill be fishing in the state regionals, and on my way. Is that great or what? Quote

BASS fisherman Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 I am meeting the guy tonight, and then he's bringing the boat to my house, so as soon as I see it I'll take a picture or 10. I am meeting him at 7pm, so it may be a little dark, and my camera doesn't have a flash. Glad to hear I can get some tips if I need it, and I will. Quote

BASS fisherman Posted October 24, 2006 Author Posted October 24, 2006 I just got a call from the gentleman, and he had something pop up this evening, so possibly tomorrow evening. He is going down to Texas, from Pittsburgh, to get a new boat so the boat he is graciously giving to me must be out of his driveway by Sunday to make room for his new boat. So Im betting on sometime between tomorrow evening, and Sunday sometime. I'll have pics up as soon as possible. Quote

I got an email from the guy today stating he will get back to me either Sunday or Monday. He decided to go to Texas first and get his boat, and then bring his old one over. As I said before, as soon as I see it, Im taking pics, and will have them posted ASAP. Im going to need help with this one. ;D Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 I talked to the guy today. On his way back from Texas with his new bass boat, he had tranny trouble with his 4 runner. So he was unable to bring the old boat out to me. He set up a time at the mechanic on Friday, so hopefully Saturday or Sunday I will finally have the boat. He is also throwing in a 40# trolling motor which only needs the mounting bolts, and rubber washers that go underneath of the mounting rack, or whatever it's called. Pics will be up the moment I get home with the boat. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 4, 2006 Author Posted November 4, 2006 I talked to the guy tonight, and we are meeting at 12 noon Saturday. I'm gettin my boat folks!!! Pics will be up when I get home. Probably sometime after 4pm. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 4, 2006 Author Posted November 4, 2006 Here we go! I plan on restoring it to the best of my ability, but it is in good shape for the most part. Last pic is of the trolling motor, and in the backround, you can see the "soft spot" in the floor. Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted November 4, 2006 Super User Posted November 4, 2006 That's incredible man!!!!! Can't beat that price either. A little elbow grease here and there and that will be a fine fishing machine. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 5, 2006 Super User Posted November 5, 2006 Nice looking project boat. Have fun restoring it. You sure can't beat the price. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 5, 2006 Author Posted November 5, 2006 Thanks guys for the good condition it is in it still needs a good bit of work. It needs thoroughly cleaned. Outside, and in. Recarpeted the seats all need reupholstered Needs wet sanded, buffed, wet sanded then buffed again. Maybe a new coat of gelcoat too. Once I get this boat done, it will look brand new again. Quote
Tom Bass Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 Nice boat. Here are a couple websites that might help you get this boat ready for next season: http://www.westmarine.com/?iorb=4764 http://www.overtons.com/ Overton's prices are better but West does have some things that Overton's doesn't. Good luck with your new boat. Tom Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 6, 2006 Author Posted November 6, 2006 Thanks Tom! I really appreciate the help. Quote
NJfishinGuy Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 very cool dude i cant believe u actually got a free bass boat. if u find any more send them my way im right in NJ Quote
BASS fisherman Posted November 8, 2006 Author Posted November 8, 2006 No problem NJfishinGUY, will do. Although the boat was free, I will be spending ALOT of money to get it retored. And thats on top of the batteries, charger, and the usual expenses to get a boat on the water. Quote
