Does anyone know who makes the gander mountain tournament series spinning rods and are they any good? I just picked up a 7' Medium one up for an all-around spinning rod for $60 because it felt more comfortable than a fenwick HMX and was cheaper. Is the HMX a good rod and more worth is than the tournament series to go back and get instead? Thanks guys

I wanna say Quantum.  The older guide series reels looked incredibly Quantum-like anyway.  I had some Guide Series rods 8 or 9 years ago (second from the highest tier, can't remember the name) and they were actually pretty nice for the $50 sale price.  I remember they had nice Fuji alconite guides.

I was told Gander rods used to be made by St. Croix (years ago) and now they are made by a company that uses a number in their name.

I have a Gander Mt rod that I was very fond of 25 years ago when it was purchased. It's only a 6'6"

HEAVY rod that I used for live bait Musky fishing on Chippewa Flowage. It is STIFF!

Works real well with a 14" Sucker on it though! Not much use for it now!

I've always seen pretty good products being rebranded by a retailer and sold. You tend to get a very good value with these, and the warranties range from good to outstanding.

I've owned a bunch of Scheels rod built on Loomis GL2 blanks that cost about half as much as the real deal. Those were my favorites at one time. I have a couple 2005-era Cabela's spinning reels that were clearly made by Daiwa that work well and have a lot of miles on them.

This might be the most amazing thing you could ever post! One of my favourite movies of all time, it never gets old.

To stay on topic, I also heard a while back that the company with the number in its name makes Gander's rods. The local store is closing due to the bankruptcy filing so I'm waiting for them to start deeply discounting their store brand stuff, specifically their top of the line rods. I could use a nice frog rod :D

I love that movie - and when he said that, it just came to me - some days are better than others for witticism. :D
