Oklahoma Mike Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Mother of all backlashes! Was bank fishing on Sunday and had a couple of rods leaned up against my backpack lying on the slope of the bank behind me. Went to throw a cast and saw my spinning outfit go flying over my head and into the water. D'oh! Fortunately not so far that I couldn't retrieve it. The resulting backlash was so bad that I ended up having to strip and re-spool. Lesson learned! 6 Quote
Super User Angry John Posted April 17, 2017 Super User Posted April 17, 2017 Pulled that same plan on my yak with 15 lb flouro. It gets expensive if your using costly line... 1 Quote
Damn Yankee Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Look at the bright side,at least you cleaned the spinning rig. 7 Quote

Honestly, I was just happy that I didn't sling it out any further than I did. There is a very steep drop off just about another two feet from where it landed with the tip of the rod hanging just over the edge of the bank. I'd have gone diving after it if I had to! 3 Quote

Falkus Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 I feel your pain , Just had that happen to me over the weekend. At least it was only 1/6 th of the reel spool from Walmart's clearance of the yo-zuri line (3 bucks) I feel your pain 1 Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 17, 2017 Super User Posted April 17, 2017 The mother of all backlashes ...... where ? That can barely qualify as a regular one. 7 Quote
freelancer27 Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Happens to me once every month. I think I will smarten up, until it happens again. For me this means most of the time I have to rip of the line from the spool, since my MOAB is at the point of no return. 1 Quote
Chowderhead Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Just had this happen to me a few weeks ago. I was extra careful to look behind me as I was casting near some trees while out on the lake. What I forgot to do was make sure that my son, who was sitting right behind me, was also not casting at the same time. Snagged his line and was greeted with a nice whack to the back of the head as his rod slammed into my noggin. The results, as you can see, were not pretty. I gave up and went home - cut it all out and just started over. 5 Quote

I gave up after a few minutes and just fished my other rods the remainder of the trip. 1 Quote

With my son laughing at me and my only baitcaster now inoperable, I gave up. Not my proudest fishing moment. It surprised me how much of a pain it was to cut all the line out. 2 Quote
