Prepping for a trip to one of the "big" bass waters in Southern Indiana. Multiple fish over 8lbs caught here last year and 1 over 10lbs. Mainly targetting the big bite when i go there. What do you think of what i have tied on? Any suggestions welcome. And i will be on someone elses boat with them is why im only bringing 5 combos. Fairly stained water and no deep water. Lots of laydowns and some rip rap. From left to right : 1/2oz jig, 1/2 oz bladed jig, 7 inch senko, 6 inch brush hog with flipping hook, and a chartruse shad squarebill.

You look like you're set. If you are specifically trying to target large fish, getting a large swimbait setup may not be a bad idea to add to your arsenal once your funds suffice.

Many, many hogs have been taken with 4 and 5" senkos(including one I caught that was 24" at the time). I know you want a big one but big ones have been caught on beetle spins and crappie jigs...

It's more of a location and timing thing...

I'd go 5" senko and if its nice I'd be trying topwater as well.

That's probably what I'd have tied on too. Would probably add some paddletail swimbaits and a Jackall Pompadour.

Little too cool for topwater i think, still prespawn here. May be some spawning there since they do let out a bit of warm water year round. May switch out the senko for a 5" swimbait then switch it to the senko if the moving bait bite is off.

Well the chase for my pb has been put on hold. Talked to some guys and they said the lake was dead, nobody catching much. So instead of my grandpa wasting a tank of gas in the truck and boat we will go to a local lake and try our luck at some slab blue gill and red ear.

Don't see a map, Navionics HotMaps, or Humminbird’s Lakemaster AutoChart & AutoChart Pro?

No offense but If you go by what people tell you every time... You're going to miss out on alot in life !!!

Not to mention the fishing changes daily ! (Actually hourly !)

Couldn't tell you how many times I've caught fish and someone else struggled that same day on the same water ... And vise versa.. where I struggled and someone else slayed them.. just how it goes bud.

Go get your PB . Rain or shine.

If it was my choice, id be there. But my grandpa is the one who would be taking his boat up there (about 1.5 hr drive). And im definitely not gonna pass up the chance to fish with my grandpa, the man who taught me all about the outdoors, just because i really really wanna go bass fishing. And who knows, last time he fished the lake we are going to he caught a red ear big enough for him to mount, and at 72 years old that is a giant red ear.

I 2nd this. My pb of 6.9 lbs was caught on a Senko. It's all about throwing what they want. I threw everything but the kitchen sink and finally hooked mine on a Senko of all things.

Yea fish with your grandpa for sure bud. If that's the case the PB can wait.. I'd trade alot to fish with my grandpa again.

I 2nd this as well. It's morbid to say, it once their gone their gone. And you'll never get the chance to again. I'd trade just about anything for another day to spend with my grandparents

In the future I'd put a glide bait on. That's what my PB (by a long shot) came on. If you don't have the gear for a big one there are smaller glide baits that you can cast on a standard set up. If you have never tried a glide bait it would be a good tool to add to your arsenal.

I was using a 5.25 inch Savage gear Shine glide in the bluegill color.
