So here before to much longer my Stradic FK will get its first really good cleaning and a Carbontex drag upgrade. However while I am doing this are there any bearing upgrades (additional bearings) that would give a decent return such as maybe putting a bearing under the spool instead of the plastic bushing (this would in theory help make the drag a bit smoother I think)?

I am sure you can do a few upgrades to the reel but I have been more than pleased with reel out of the box fished bone stock. Have used it for a good 10+ hours and it has caught SMB, LMB, and some wipers and handled them like a champ. I scored mine for a good price from American Legacy. Maybe just try it as is before spending add'l $ on it. That is what I do with every reel so I can try to see if the upgrades or changes made were worth it and noticeable.

I have been fishing it since September of last year :)

Check a schematic but off the top of my head I don't think there are any bushings in that reel.

Thank you sir! I will look into it more before sending it your way for a good cleaning and a drag upgrade!

There's a few bushing to upgrade. Google Stradic FK upgrade and you will find the link with step by step instruction.

Bushing under the spool, bushing on the reel handle knob, bushing on the worm gear.

Have you changed out the bushings for bearings? If so did you notice any improvement?

If you like to add bearings...

Based on ST-2500HGS

Under the spool #16122 - replace with 7x11x3mm bearing

Worm Gear # 13324 - replace with 3x6x2.5mm bearing

Handle  - #13844 - replace with 4x7x2.5mm bearing

Pawl Mechanism #16053 - replace with 2x5x2.5mm bearing

I changed the worm gear, under the spool, and handle. If you gave me one that was stock, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference blind reeling it.

Try this experiment. Before you swap out to carbontex, see if the felt drag will last longer(if the felt drag hasn't already disintegrated) with the bearing under the spool. I have a 10 years old Twinpower that has caught ten times more fish than the burned out drag washers on the Stradic FK. It has felt washers also but the difference is that it actually has a bearing inside the spool as well as bearing support under the spool.
