Stroth Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 Does anyone on this form have experience with Lake Salem in Derby VT? I am staying there for a week in July and I am looking for some local information. I have a 14' Lund with a 9.8 Tohatsu. Hopefully I can get into some small mouth and walleye. I need information on recommended lures / any other insight into the lake. THANK YOU Quote

THANK YOU You should do just fine fishing typical smallmouth lures, tubes, jigs, crankbaits, topwater poppers, drop shot, senko, etc... Being July.... they probably will be deeper during the day. A drop shot and/or jig in 20 plus ft would be something worth trying. First light and last light the topwater bite should be good. Its a very fun way to catch them. Lake Salem has a lot of 5-8 inch Rainbow Smelt. Excellent forage. Quote
HeavyDluxe Posted April 17, 2017 Posted April 17, 2017 Haven't fished there, but I'll happily echo what @Mainebass1984 said... Standard presentations for smallies will work fine. I'd just add that I fish I similar sized lake further south in VT and we still have a fair number of smallies up shallow (though generally tight to cover) that time of year. So, you should be able to get on fish deep or 'target fishing' in around the banks if you need to... Quote
Stroth Posted July 7, 2017 Author Posted July 7, 2017 Thank you so much for the replies! My trip is coming up in a little over a week. I am curious if anyone has fished this lake lately or have some recommendations on color patterns that are likely to work. I do not typically fish smallmouth as they are not available near me. I have some gitzit tubes with some jig heads. I am hoping to also fish them without weight. I would also love to catch a walleye. Anyone have experience to share? Thanks again! Stroth Quote
Super User webertime Posted July 7, 2017 Super User Posted July 7, 2017 Carolina rig a Zoom Speedcraw, you'll have a great chance at both species. Quote
Stroth Posted July 8, 2017 Author Posted July 8, 2017 Thanks so much Webertime! So appreciated! Any color that you prefer? Quote
Stroth Posted July 25, 2017 Author Posted July 25, 2017 I had a terrific week up there. Beautiful lake and water. Lots of native weeds around the shoreline and I found fish around most of them.. My best was a smallmouth that I am confident was over three pounds! Most afternoons in about two hours of fishing I managed to land ten or more smallmouth. My best lure was a black with blue flake senko 5". Thanks so much for the information. It helped! Quote
