larht Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I'm looking at the lowrance 334c .Anyone have any experience with this model? It can be bought with either an internal or exrernal antennae.I have heard that the internal antennae was not very reliable. Quote
Al Wolbach Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 I have been looking at a different model but I have been advised to get the external antennae also. Apparently the internal antennae is not as sensitive as the external. Makes sense.........................Al Quote
madddogg Posted October 30, 2006 Posted October 30, 2006 I have the 334 with internal antennae. I heard a lot of whining about these units but when push came to shove I wasn't ready to punch a hole in my new boat. That and it fit nicely in the dash of my boat. To be honest I haven't had any problems with it. Once it locks I've never had it lose a lock while fishing all day. I use it out in the CA Delta and the GPS is great for getting around and going back to places you've been before. The GPS in my estimation is accurate to within 10ft. Quote
larht Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 Glad to hear your 334c is holding signal,I'd really prefer to have the internal antannae.I'm also considering a hummingbird 787c2 the price is in the same ballpark but where I live there seem to be a lot more lowrance units than hummingbirds so I'm not getting much feedback on the 787c2. Thank you for your input!! Quote
Hale Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 I have the 339ci and I have no complaints since adding the fishing elite hot spots. Pretty easy to use considering the vast amount of features it offers. Quote
larht Posted October 31, 2006 Author Posted October 31, 2006 I just took a quick look at the 339 ci,I see it was designed "especially for salt water".I'm not sure exactly what that means but I will be only on fresh water lakes. The local lowrance dealer told me that I would not need the dual mode transducer on whichever unit I decide to buy because the dual mode was only usefull in very deep waters! I assume that your unit has an internal antennae and it is working fine for you and for that info I thank you. I really don't want to deal with an external antannae. Thanks for the reply Quote
Hale Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 It does have the internal. 99% of my fishing in this boat is freshwater. The only difference in these is the ability to read deeper and provide high detail at those depths. It reads somewhere around 2500ft, which is completely unnecessary for what I need but...it was a bit cheaper than the equivalent FW unit. Quote
mudcatwilly Posted November 5, 2006 Posted November 5, 2006 That's a real good unit for the money. My dad has one and it works great Quote
