With one game played the second round looks to be very exciting!

The Blues looked great, except for the second period :o and Allen was not quite as sharp as he was against the Wild, which was to be expected I suppose. This series is far from over, and I am still picking St. Louis.

It will be interesting to see how the Caps respond to loosing a game they should have won. They've been here before...

I like the Canadian clubs in the other two series, but would not bet on either one.

The Washington Capitals must be wondering if they have done something to offend Lord Stanley. While the series is not over, the Caps threw everything they had at the Penguins tonight and got thumped.

For the record I mean no disrespect. I've wondered the same thing about my team...

I'm from Boston so of course that's who I want to win but I don't see them going too far with the roster and injuries, Toronto is playing fast and good and it's one of my favorite cities in North America so I'd like to see them win, if not toronto I'd like to see ovechkin finally get the cup

caps win to night  up 2 zip and pens tied with less then 3 mins.  OT  caps win 3-2. Crosby got hurt but states "i feel fine"

Heard this on WRVA this morning:

Who wears red, white and blue and plays golf in the spring?

The Washington Capitals!

Just thought I would add to the conversation.

I'm afraid barring an unlikely turnaround, the Caps will once again prove you right Sam. Even without Crosby playing Pittsburgh looks like the better team right now.

Unfortunately, my Blues are on track to join the Caps playing golf in the near future. The difference between the two is the Blues are playing with house money and no one really expected them to win anything this year. We just don't quite have the horses or the discipline. The Caps though have enormous talent, and have played well all year. Both franchises do have a  history of raising expectations and not delivering...

I'm done with predictions this year, although (heaven help us) Pittsburgh looks like they could make it two in row.

Well, hope springs eternal for the Blues! Only two more wins to get to the Conference Final. I can't really figure this team out. Tonight without Steen, a very good first line forward, they played their best game of this series. I guess I will just enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Go Blues! Go Caps!

Rinne has a tough time with short rebounds.  Blues need to get guys in front of the net facing him and SHOOT THE DANG PUCK ON NET! Good things will come from it as seen from tonight.  That 5 on 3 the Preds got was bogus.

Wow. The Oilers were up 3-0 with less than 4 minutes to play. The Ducks win it in 2 overtimes. I thought Edmonton was a lock in this game and series. It is a good thing I'm not a gambler...

Wow. That's more of a choke than the 50 years of Blues choking.

Ok, I'm done mourning for the Blues, Caps, and Oilers! I'm not really sure a fan ever gets over what the Caps have done over the last couple of years. Next year lets have the Blues and Caps in the Cup Finals! We'll just pencil that in....

I'm taking Nashville in the West, but I would not bet a Bandit crankbait on it. It ought to be a good series. In the East I think you have to take the defending champs, but with Crosby's head injuries who knows?

One thing is certain: If you like hockey this time of year is as good as it gets.

The Penguins-Capitals game 7 on Wednesday posted the single highest NHL playoff rating on cable for a national audience.  Kinda too bad they had to meet in the second round.  I figured the winner of that would emerge as the eventual champion and unfortunately it was NOT the team I was hoping for.

The Senators may not win this series, but they were the better team tonight. It will be interesting to see if the Penguins have anything left. The Senators don't seem to be too concerned about being the underdog.

The Ducks don't seem to care that all the experts have picked the Preditors either. Some great hockey being played by all four teams.

I think I under estimated the Sens.

Many of us did. I picked them to beat the Rangers, but I really didn't give them much of a chance of beating the Penguins or the Caps. They think they can win this thing. They may be right.

The Preditors need one more and it's a coin toss between the Senators and Penguins. One thing is certain, if you're not watching you are missing some exciting hockey. Turn off the basketball.? We all know who's playing for the Championship there...

Even though the Senators gave all they had, it wasn't enough to get past the Penguins. It really was a great series, and game 7 was an exciting battle with Ottawa taking a beating but refusing to give up.

The Preditors looked great against the Ducks. They've had a couple of extra days to rest and that will serve them well against the Penguins. It will be interesting to see if they can use their speed and aggressive counter attack to shut down the big guns of the Penguins.

I'll take Nashville to win the Cup. It should be a great series. How about y'all?

I cheer for the Flyers and whoever is playing the Penguins.  So that has been Columbus, Washington, and Ottawa.  Now it is Nashville.  Go Preds.

"The Pittsburgh Penguins became the first team in nearly two decades to win a second consecutive Stanley Cup championship when they defeated the Nashville Predators, 2-0, on Sunday in Game 6 of a seesaw series that pitted a high-scoring heavyweight against an upstart challenger.

Penguins wing Patric Hornqvist, who played for the Predators for six seasons, scored the winner when he shot the puck off Nashville’s goaltender, Pekka Rinne, with 1 minute 35 seconds remaining in the third period. Carl Hagelin added an empty-net goal with 14 seconds left.

The Penguins held off the hard-charging Predators, who were making their first appearance in the Stanley Cup finals, having entered the playoffs as the lowest seed in the Western Conference. The Predators outshot the Penguins in nearly every game, and their stout defense held the Penguins’ stars, including Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, in check for long stretches.

But on Sunday, three days after they had poured in six goals and shut out the Predators in Game 5 in Pittsburgh, the Penguins outshot the Predators, 29-27, and beat them in Nashville, where the Predators had been nearly flawless during the postseason."

Congrats to the Pen's and all their fans ~

Back to Back is Pretty Sweet

AJ you are right that repeating in the NHL is nearly impossible. The league has created a system that makes parity the primary objective. Pittsburgh did it in spite of long odds. They are worthy champions.

I would rather the league focus more on a quality product than making sure the difference between worst and best is so small. It dimishes the product.

They could start with officiating. With hockey on view for the world to see, the lack of clear definition of the rules, inconsistency of enforcement, and complete disregard for conduct unbecoming is frustrating.

I love the game and think played well it is the best of all the team sports. I also know that the NHL is the top of the heap. I'm just not sure that it can compete without some real changes.
