Ooof, that was a tough loss I'll admit it but at least I can rest easy knowing that I'm not a bandwagon guy. I bet it gets expensive buying a new jersey every year. How do you even pick? Do you just guess at the beginning of the Season? Or do you wait till half way through see how everybody's doing and then purchase one then? Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted May 12, 2017 Author Super User Posted May 12, 2017 Epic no-show by James Harden. I thought it was a mistake when they showed his stats with 3 minutes left in the first half and he had TWO SHOT ATTEMPTS! He must have been injured or something. It really is unexplainable how an MVP candidate who sets records for usage rates takes 2 shots attempts in a half of an elimination game. 2 Quote

I gotta say I did appreciate Houston scoring 75 points as as tribute to the Warriors first West Coast title! Another great time the East Bay sports bandwagon... 1 Quote
Super User gim Posted May 13, 2017 Super User Posted May 13, 2017 Lets be realistic here guys. There's about 3 teams that can legitimately win the NBA title every season. Every other team is just "there." Not near enough competitive balance. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 13, 2017 Super User Posted May 13, 2017 It has always been that way in the NBA, it is nothing new. Difference is the expansion in the late 80's/early 90's watered down the talent pool even more. Combine that with the players playing virtually no college ball and you are looking at teams with more developing players on their roster than ever before when it used to be a late pick was your development player, not a lottery pick. No competitive balance, yet the 2 leading MVP candidates are on teams that most people would consider outside the top 3. Although Houston can hang with any team as long as their star doesn't decide to take the night off. No competitive balance, yet the 2 teams in the eastern conference semis are so dead even that they are unable to win on the other's home court. Tie-breakers had to settle eighth-seed races in both conferences. The 5th seed beat the 4th seed in the west, while the 7th seed took the 2nd seed to 6 games. The 8th seed in the east had a real shot at beating the 1st seed until their point guard got hurt. Every sport has good teams and bad teams. Sure, the NBA is the most predictable of the 3 major sports, but the only thing "unbalanced" is the top 2 teams. One of those teams has the greatest player of the current generation, and the other team has one of the most talented rosters ever assembled, with 2 or 3 of the most gifted offensive players to ever hold a basketball. So why wouldn't you want to see those 2 teams in the Finals? 1 Quote

I can appreciate your opinions flyfisher, but wasn't the time period you mentioned also when the "international" players started to fill out rosters. And before I saw the ESPN 30 for 30 segment on Calipari, I believed in players getting a college education and playing experience. After the show, I had a better understanding of Calipari's motivations, and the financial situations of some of these young men. I have to admit it isn't an exact science in how players are drafted in any sport... Quote

I know now there are more international players than ever in the league. I also completely understand the financial implications and reasoning behind many of the one and done players and I have no issue with it at all. It does impact the league though and that was my point. This is really an NBA issue since they changed that kids can't come in right away. I think they should do it like MLB does. Either you go in right away or you have to play 2 years of college or turn 21 before going in the minors. If a kid wants to go pro at 18 he should be able to do so. Historically speaking, international players bust more frequently than straight out of high school players too. As far as Calipari goes, that guy has left a trail of slime everywhere he has been. Don't kid yourself and think he has the best interests of those kids in mind, he is thinking about himself and that is about it. 1 Quote
