TX-Deluxe Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 4000 size spinning reel Pflueger President Limited Edition. I read somewhere that a bigger spool is better for FC on spinning reels. I have a ST Croix 7'ML to pair it with... 2 big of a reel for It? Am I over thinking this? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted April 11, 2017 Super User Posted April 11, 2017 Yes, bigger spool will be better for straight FC. You'll be fine with the setup. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted April 11, 2017 Super User Posted April 11, 2017 Yes - you are on the rght path and could go up to say #10 lb. or #12 lb. FC line on a 4000 size reel without too much trouble . For #8 lb. FC it would be ideal but below #8 lb. FC a 2500 series would work just as well . Quote
Big-Bass Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I thought I posted a video on here of Seth Fieder using a 3000 sized Daiwa (4000 equivalent Shimano) for his finesse fishing. Not sure where the link went. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 11, 2017 Super User Posted April 11, 2017 I haven't had any issues with my 2500/3000 size Shimano reels and these lines: 6# Tatsu 6# Invisx 6# Sniper 6.2# Seaguar Finesse I've had issues with a few lines when I tried to go up to 8#. If I need greater break strength than that, I use braid. 4 Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 I also prefer the 2500/3000 size reels for bass fishing. Mono/ Fluoro above 8# is easier to handle on the bigger spool but like Jfranco I'd go to braid. 1 Quote

Super User ChrisD46 Posted April 12, 2017 Super User Posted April 12, 2017 InvizX #6 lb. on a 2500 series is not bad : Use backing with 65 yrds. of FC , close bail by hand after taking up slack (usual spinning reel tricks) , etc. helps . Quote
