Good or Garbage?

I just picked up a spool of Spiderwire Stealth Glo-Vis 65lb. braid at Wal-Mart on clearance for $3...is this stuff any good or is it garbage and I wasted money?

I am not a fan of any of the high viz lines and I don't use spider wire but I don't think it is garbage. I am sure it is very capable line. it just depends on your preference.

I'm more worried about the breakage factor after reading some reviews. I don't care about the $3 I spent on the line but I would care a lot if it snapped and I lost a $20+ lure (I know, I know...if I'm worried about losing a lure i shouldn't have bought it and that point is taken...I just don't want to increase the chances by using crappy line known for breaking easily).

I have some 50lb Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid on one of my spinning reels I use for catfishing. It has been fine. As with anything I am sure you can find someone who will give a horror story or pick it apart. This particular version I have does make a little noise going through the guides but I haven't found any heavy residue and it has held up well for me. It's been on that reel for 3 seasons and I haven't broke off once that I can recall. I dont have the bad toothy critters here but I have used it in the spillways a few times (solid rocks) and haven't seen any real sign of fraying although I am sure it probably had some.

i quit using spider wire this year because it frays very easy after a few months and became sticky on the spool.

Line is funny, it is amazing how some have good experiences with some line and others don't. I don't use braid a lot, flipping and frogging is all and the Spiderwire stealth braid I used wasn't great but it wasn't horrible either. I like the Suffix 832 in lo-vis green, it handles great and casts great but if I can get decent performing braid to use for frogs or flipping at $3.00 I think I'd get it. I also don't care for the regular power pro everyone raved about, on my set up it was the worst casting braid I ever used and would get wind knots at more than 5 times the rate of any other braid I ever used. So the only way to really know is to try it and at $3.00 I'd get at least 2 spools, one to try and if you like it at least you have the second spool, if you don't like it you can donate it to a friend or use it for tying skirts or something.

Spiderwire Stealth was one of the first Superlines to hit the marketplace.

During the 90s they aired a comical commercial showing an angler hooking a large tree,

who then proceeded to pull the tree into the lake (I'm sure many remember that commercial).

 

Spiderwire braid is made of Dyneema, the world's strongest fiber.

I don't happen to use the Spiderwire brand, but it's faaar from garbage.

However, I wouldn't use 65-lb braid for anything but slop-fishing (frogging, pitching & punching)

Some of these comments are funny, its great line. I wouldnt think twice. And at $30 its a steal. I wouldve loaded up

You spent $3. Event if it is junk you are out $3. I don't see what the fuss is. Most hardbaits are more than this and are easily snagged or bit of by fish with teeth.

Worst case scenario is breaking off on 30lb braid with a vision 110 tied on. I'd know...

...it's about perspective - you're NOT gonna break anything off with Spiderwire Braid UNLESS your knot-tying skills are very subpar - cast away...!!  (headed to Wally World tomorrow - hope I get lucky!!)

it's hard to say you wasted $3 because the value is in the eye of the beholder.  that said, if you were to go through all my previous posts, the glo-vis braid is the one and only line i've ever just outright trashed.  it did not perform well and has some slimy type of coating (for the glow no doubt) that would make the line sticky on the cast and retrieve and the same coating made tying clean knots a little more difficult than usual.

You mean he won't break anything off with 65LB Spiderwire.

I sure as hell wouldn't throw all spiderwire into that blanket statement.

It's not garbage but at full price I wouldn't buy it again. The line isn't as round as other brands of braid which made it difficult to pass through the eye of some hooks and jigs to tie a palomar knot.  I used 30lb and never broke anything off, I had an extra strong jig hook straighten when I got snagged on a tree but the line didn't break. My other complaint is the the line digs into to spool worse than other braids of the same breaking strength. Stealth is quieter than other braids but it wasn't as high visibility as I wanted

the only spiderwire ive ever used was a monofilament in 20lb, it was absolute garbage.

I tried some when I saw it on sale (not as cheap as $3). It seemed to be a looser weave than what I was used to, but wasn't a junk line. I still have some 40lb on my jig rod, but I did end up using black sharpie on the last foot or so (not sure if it makes a difference, but I feel better about it). I had the 65lb on a frog rod for a while, but didn't like the bright florescent line laying out across the water. For $3 I'd have bought more, but it isn't a line I would pay full price for. Everyone will have different experiences with all products, and the loudest ones will almost always be the ones who have "worst ever" stories. It is easy for me to see, so for a line watching application that's a plus.

It's decent line...To clear up confusion this isn't the original spiderwire that initially hit the market in the 90's...I think the spiderwire and fireline braids still suffer a bit by association.....Its a dyneema fiber, 8 carrier braid starting at 30lbs, below that is 4 or 6 carrier I forget.

 

I've used stealth in 30lb on baitcasters for years after getting a bulk spool and it's perfectly fine...Handles and casts really good and doesnt break....Picked up some of the walmart glow vis and it's seems to be good but needs to be broken in. I wouldnt worry a bit about it breaking and letting you down if you do your part right

Never tried the glo line but spiderwire makes a very decent braid. I use the stealth and have no complaints. Should be good line
