Does anyone know a source for this type of shaky head jig? I can get them on ebay, but the seller won't combine shipping and they end up just too expensive by the time I get them home. Can't see a similar head on the Do-It website, so wonder if it's a generally available design?

Tackle warehouse offers free ground shipping (I think on orders over 50). Make an order of things you'll need this season. It'll easily be over 50 bucks lol. They have competitive prices, good selection , good customer service , and tracking on their packages.

I highly recommend.

Well, I don't think they can get GROUND shipping right to the UK.

Is it flat on the bottom of the head? I make and use the football shakyhead mold but they're not flat on the bottom.

No, or at least it doesn't need to be. What I really want is a football head, an EWG hook, 3/0 and 4/0 in 1/8 and 1/4 with a screw lock.

The regular screwlock shakyhead mold would accomplish that no problem. That's the one I use and it takes a standard hook or EWG no problems.

This is the hook that I use in mine.

I think next time I'm going to try the heavier gauge wire though because those hooks are pretty thin and I like to drag the heavier heads on a baitcaster and I have to be careful not to put too much pressure on them and bend the hook out.

Thanks. I will be using them for perch and zander primarily, often with spinning gear, so I expect the standard fine wire would be perfect.

BB, I don't know whether you've tried using elastech plastics on this type of jig head, but any suggestions what to replace the screw keeper with to get the elastech to work on this style jig? I was thinking just a piece of wire bent back on itself to form a barb.

I've had pretty good success using these.

Really the ideal keeper would be something like the keeper on a Mister Twister worm hook though.

The Mister Twister hooks aren't terribly expensive. Now that the idea is in my head, I'll probably end up buying some hooks just to steal the keepers off of them to make some Elaztech compatible shakyheads.

If you look at the Do-it Trokar molds they have a football like that as well but it is flat on the bottom. It will use either the Trokar TK815 hook, the Gamakatsu 674, or the Mustad 37194. I believe Bluebasser 86 will make you almost an exact copy of what is pictured as that head doesn't look to be flat and the hook he will use looks to be identical, and that is the 38109 which is a 45 degree EWG flat eye hook. I use that hook but I make round shaky heads with a flat eye hook. http://www.barlowstackle.com/Do-It-Screw-Loc-TrokarbrFootball-Jig-Mold-P2746.aspx

One last thing, you'll want Bluebasser 86 to make those rather than get the one pictured. That one is powder painted with jig armor powder paint in the chestnut brown crustation color, but if you look at the hook eye you'll notice it is closed. If you have ever powder painted a jig and cured it and then tried to clean the eye after baking, you'll know how much effort and time it took in addition to possibly scarring the inside of the hook eye which can cut your line.

Thank you. I looked at the trokar version, but I think the one BB has suggested will be perfect. I can always get busy with the dremmel if it needs a tweak. I don't often powder coat jigs, as I don't really think it matters, but I do coat my ned rig heads as they have so little lead round the hook that they are a bit fragile, so coating them helps reinforce them a bit. I always clear the eyes before baking, but sometimes the paint re-fills the eye in the baking process and they are a pain to clear. Do you have any good ideas how to mask the hook eye while applying the power paint?

That looks like the 38109 Mustad hook and it will fit in a Do-It mold like others have said. I have made some in the past but didn't like the short amount of space between the hook point and screw lock.

I hang mine by the eye with a hooked piece of wire. It keeps at least a hole the diameter of the wire clear during the curing process.

That would work, but I wondered if anyone had tried putting some shrink tube ober the eye before power coating, or some less fiddly idea like that/ Even holding the jig by the eye with a pair of flat nosed pliers would mask the eye, but the pliers would get covered in paint.

A lot of time I can hold the eye so it's off the side of my heat gun and it picks up little to no paint when I dip it once I get the timing right. Once I have the timing down I just hang them by the hook. It works better on baits with more distance between the head and eye like the swim pro head I use for bladed jigs, but it works pretty well on most heads that use a flat eye hook.

For elaztech stuff, have you look into owner ultrahead with EWG hook?

I just use a drop of superglue to make sure plastic stay on the head.

Another type of keeper I found that work with elaztech stuff is mustad keeper. It is a little bit harder but you can pre hole with some thick wire (heat it first) then use a drop of superglue on the last knot.

Btw ppl will say the spring type keeper work with elaztech plastic by heat the keeper. I found it make a big nasty hole instead of screw it in.

Christmas tree bulb hangers from the Dollar store work best for this.
