I hooked a big one on a frog last summer. It sounded like a toilet flushing when it took my bait under. Sadly the fish came off as I was reeling it in

No.

I hooked a bass in a smaller lake in NE MO several years ago that was clearly bigger than the 10 I caught in Mexico. Fishing a deep tree lined point when I hooked her. She swung the entire 16' johnboat 180* and kept chugging towards deeper water. I was so sure it wasn't a bass that I never panicked. Once I finally worked her close enough that I saw that huge side flash and realized what I had, she dove back towards the trees and I put too much pressure on her and straightened a 5/0 EWG worm hook enough for her to pull off.

I lost some big ones I never saw in Mexico, but those fish pull so hard it's really hard to guess size without seeing them. I remember one of them shaking the tree I hooked her in like a big flathead catfish on a setline.

Nope. Though obviously I didn't get to weigh her,

I did get a great look at her literally inches from my

net as she taildanced her way off my hook.

That one hurt. She was much fatter than my 7.5 PB,

so I put her est. in the 8+ range.

Another one in the same area a year before, I caught

one that blew up on a school of shad. I heard it behind

me, threw a 5" senko and she hit it hard and gave

me quite a fight, but I could never work her to the

surface when suddenly my 10# Yo Zuri Hybrid leader

snapped maybe 24-30 inches above the hook...

No, my PB is 9 lbs even, and I took a short vacation to Florida last spring and lost one well over 10 on a jig.  I got her within 6 feet of me and saw her clear as day, and well as multiple times when she tried to jump, but gravity took over and she could only shake her head above the water line.  This fish still haunts me

No. Big O, last year on a big ez. It hit about 10' from the boat, the hit was so loud my brother though I had fallen in. Still wake up in cold sweats over that one.

Largemouth, yes.  Smallmouth, no.  That brown sucker scared me when I saw it.  That might have been the last time I shed an actual tear.

Biggest I've put in the boat was a 4. Lost one that had to have been over 8, nearly peed myself when I saw her. On top water no less, when I just started getting into Buzzbaits (now I fish them all the time, and almost always make them work). She wasn't fighting too hard, swam up to the boat nicely, then immediately shook the bait out of her mouth. It hurt a little inside, especially since I don't get to fish nearly as often as I'd like. It's been over 5 months now (admittedly 4 of them don't really count, basic training and now tech school) I'm hoping to break the fast once I get to my first duty station. Provided it's in the states, that is.
