Spinning Rod

I'm looking for a new spinning rod to pair with my brand new Shimano Sahara. I want a lightweight rod, such as an L or an M/L with a fast action. My budget is anywhere up to about $130. Thanks for the suggestions!

I have Abu Garcia, BPS, Fenwick, Powell, and Gander Mtn. ML spinning rods.

 

My two favorites are Abu's Veracity and Fenwick's Elite Tech. The former is super light, sensitive, and fishes a little heavier than a ML.  The latter is also light and loads up nicely with light baits.

 

They're $149 rods and worth every penny, to me, anyway.

 

Regardless of what rod you choose, handle as many different models as possible. The one that feels best to you is the right one for you. Afterall, you're fishing it.

Lets look at this a bit differently.

What size Sahara did you get?

What type of fish do you wan to catch and what type and weight of lures do you intend to throw?

Do you own a medium action spinning rod?

 

The answers to these questions will help to advise you in the best direction.

 

I always suggest the first and most useful rod to own is a 6'6 to 7' medium spinning rod for general bass fishing. A rod like that can handle a huge array of baits from grubs to texas rigs, small spinners like mepps, Sencos, and the list goes on. Now if the correct rod is chosen the actual weight of the rod can be very light.  If you regularly fish smallies on smaller rivers and creeks and most of the lures you throw will be 1/16 to 3/8 ounce then I would certainly go lighter.  

If you already have a medium action rod than the ML is a great addition, simply because it will handle the lighter baits like drop shotting and Ned Rigs better.

 

As for rods in your budget seriously consider a Powell Inferno 702MLEF and the 6103MEF.

 

Also look at the Dobyns Fury FR702SF and the FR703SF.   Dobyns runs a little lighter than most, so I think the 703SF would make you very happy.  

 

Another great series of rods to look at is the Abu Garcia Ike finesse series spinning rods.  Go check out the 7 foot medium rod and his 6'10 med light rods.

I fish rods from all of these companies and really like them.

Suggestion would be a Premier at that level,

or Avid if willing to spend a little more. But

as @fishnkamp asked, what size reel?

 

Smaller the reel, the more tip-heavy (usually)

the rod will be, esp. in the SC lineup. I'm a fan

of shorter rods from my kayak, 6' being optimal,

I'll go as long as 6'6". But length is relative to

the fisherman, get what you feel comfortable with.

Check out the St. Croix line of rods.  You will not be disappointed.

MY reel is 2500 sized and I'm intending to throw the lighter stuff, such as ned rigs, very small t-rigs, etc.

St Croix premier ml/f for 2500 size reel is perfect for Ned rig and some drop shot action

abu has a pretty wide range of sub $150 stuff now,and I've had the same two volatiles for years now, but they stopped production on them last year...but ya know come to think of it my buddy has a veritas 2.0 that's really versatile. Those are under a hundred bucks, and it's really clean lookin.

NOOOOO!!! I bought it from Tackle Warehouse but I got a $50 gift card for Bass Pro Shop's for my birthday that I ended up using on lures.
