Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 7, 2017 Super User Posted April 7, 2017 Has anyone ever developed an app or know of how or who to get in contact with about doing so? I have come up with something that I cannot find any sort of similar app and I would like to move forward with my ideas but I want to make sure I don't just give away my idea to someone who will run with it and leave me in the cold. I didn't know if it was like a legal deal or what......Any help would be appreciated. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 7, 2017 Super User Posted April 7, 2017 An application generally consists of several programs. Do you know any coding language such as C++ or Java? Roger Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 7, 2017 Author Super User Posted April 7, 2017 Slowly learning, but with 20 days of school left I will have plenty of time on my hands to learn even more. This would be a mobile app, not really intended for a PC. I do not have a Mac, so IOS may be out of the question. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 7, 2017 Super User Posted April 7, 2017 It takes quite awhile to become proficient at a computer language, but once you know how to code, there isn't much you cannot do on your own. If graphics are involved, you might also want to learn Visual Basic (it all takes time). Roger Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 7, 2017 Author Super User Posted April 7, 2017 Thank you RoLo, that's what I was afraid of. That's why I was wondering if there was a way to have someone do it for you so that the process would be faster and it may be the first of its kind available. It would need GPS capabilities and probably some extensive leg work to find images if they are not available on Google Street View. I think I could get users to submit images for approval to make it easier and much more useful as the app grows. Quote
breban1 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Hey JB! I'm a member here and also an app developer. I make mobile games, don't typically do freelance work but I may be able to point you in a direction. There a lot of companies out there that you can hire to create apps for you, but expect to pay big $$$. Anyways, shoot me a message if you want to discuss. I can probably give you some rough estimates of what the app might take time-wise, etc. but I probably won't be the one developing it for you. If you are going to have your app developed by an independent developer, remember to keep your Intellectual Property protected. Write down your idea and document it with dates, etc., possibly even video record it so there is proof that the idea was yours. A design document works well too. Also, before you start talking with anyone (unless you are going to talk in VERY vague terms), you should have them sign an "NDA" (Non-Disclosure Agreement). The last thing you want is someone else stealing your idea and profiting from it. Good luck with your idea either way! Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 11, 2017 Super User Posted April 11, 2017 You need database skills (MySQL or SQL Server), C# .Net, and something like Ionic. There's others, like Xamarin. There's even others that don't require coding, but their capability is limited. Android apps are pretty easy to release. Apple is really picky, and have a slow release cycle. Quote
