Super User king fisher Posted April 5, 2017 Super User Posted April 5, 2017 What is every ones trailer color preference on spinner baits, jigs, and bladed jigs. Do you like the trailer color to be the same as the lure, or different. Not looking for specific color, just contrasting or not. Quote
npl_texas Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I always match mine up. It's more of an OCD thing than anything else. Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 5, 2017 Super User Posted April 5, 2017 Soft plastic trailers use GYCB single & double tail grubs shad colors (pearl white with black-blue flake) for swim jigs and spinnerbaits because Shad are the primary baitfish bass chase where I fish. Soft plastic jig trailers I use only a few; Chigger Craw in green pumpkin, GYCB Hula grubs in brown purple-copper flake, dark watermelon with red-black-purple flake and Biffle bug in black-blue claws at night. I use pork rind year around in 4 colors; black, brown, purple and white on hair jigs. Contrast is good. Tom Quote

My hair jigs are multiple colors and I match 1 of the colors with a single color pork trailer. For example black, purple, brown combination hair jig I can use black, purple or brown trailers, gives me 3 different looking jigs by changing only the trailer. Silicone or living rubber type skirted jigs I often use contrasting trailers; Browns with blue skirts, greens with purple skirts, blue with black skirts at night. The one thing I have learned is don't try to use too many jig color variations, the basic black, brown, purple, jig skirt colors will catch LMB bass anywhere. Smallmouth bass are different fish and they really like contrasting colors like brown and chartreuse combinations . Tom Quote

Super User Team9nine Posted April 5, 2017 Super User Posted April 5, 2017 I never exactly match, always going at least a little different, the degree to which depends on the bait and the water color. Contrast is good. Quote
