The week of April 15 - 20th , my fiance and I will be heading to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area.  We will be fishing for 3 days, hoping to do a day of trout fishing, a day of smallmouth, and the 3rd day, do trout or smallmouth again, whichever was more productive.  I have a good idea where to go for trout, but not much clue on smallmouth.  I know anything downstream of pigeon forge (Apple Barn) should old some smallmouth.  We don't have waders, canoe, kayak, or anything, we'll just be fishing from shore.  We don't mind a hike to get to a decent area, just lost as where to try.  We'd be more interested in numbers over quality.  Would the smallmouth be on beds then? Where should we look for some?  Any tips on baits? Anything would be appreciated.  We'll be staying at the KOA campground in Pigeon Forge, near the Old Mill.  Thanks for the help

I've seen several people fishing the little Piegon River that flows right through Piegon Forge. Never personally fished there myself but my brother a I have been considering taking a trip out there for smallies after seeing several people fishing there last year. Good luck and let me know how you do.

If you are coming in on I-40 you will probably exit onto hwy 66 at exit 407. At that exit is a BassPro Shop, go to the fly shop and ask the employees there about fishing the Pigeon River in the Gatlinburg area.  Several of them fish that river and should be able to help. There are different regulations(no treble hooks, barbless hooks, etc) and licensing requirements depending on which part of the river you are fishing. I do not know them or fish those waters, so I can't help. There is also a Orvis shop in Pigeon Forge that should be able to help. Folks here are very friendly and more than willing to help, so don't be afraid to ask...

I know it appears your trip is coming to an end now but next time your in the area you could try Douglas lake. I've seen some decent fish come out of there especially close to the dam. Also not too far down the road is a few other great Lakes to fish. Norris,Melton Hill, Ft Loudon. Hopefully your trip was successful.
