CDMeyer Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 I just purchased a Lowrance HOOK-4 CHIRP DSI Fishfinder Chartplotter With Lake Insight . Currently I have an old Humminbird LCR on my trolling motor. I am wondering where should I mount this one? Do I want the transducer on the back so I can look at it while running and cruse for structure... or do I want the transducer on the trolling motor so I can be right on top of what I am looking at. Where ever I do not put this new Lowrance I will put my Hummingbird . Either way I will have the screen unit itself mounted so it can be swung around to the front when fishing and the console when driving (I have a small boat Hahaha) Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted April 4, 2017 Super User Posted April 4, 2017 With the imaging technology, you have to be moving so the imaging pulse can scan. That is how it creates the picture-like images. Quote
Super User MickD Posted April 4, 2017 Super User Posted April 4, 2017 I favor putting your best unit at the helm where you can use it to scan for the right structure and fish while travelling with the big motor. Since most of the time I'm in front I'm standing, I cannot see the detail anyway. The front unit, for the most part, is for water depth and "gross" structure" changes. Which would mean that the transducer for your best unit will be at the back and the transducer for the front unit will be mounted to the trolling motor head. That's not God's word, so it may be imperfect. Just give it a lot of thought before drilling holes. 1 Quote
3dees Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 it's going to be hard to see any detail on a 4" screen from the bow if you mount it on the console. they are not expensive. save up and get another one. remember, if you mount the transducer on the transom and fish from the bow, your looking at structure and fish that you already passed. you can do it, but I bet you'll be adding another one sooner than later. 1 Quote

Thank you, and you are right I probally will but for now I will have the ol' Humminbird up front and I will have my New Lowrance on the back. My front deck is honestly about four feet so having it on a arm mount should be fine hahaha. Thanks for teh help! Quote
