Recently purchased a used Lew's Tournament MB reel from a member here. It had from my understanding originally been purchased as a not perfect reel and at a discount. The star drag was not round. It gave the appearance that the handle was warped when you reeled it.

I also had one of my own Lew's Tournament MB reels I also had purchased used quite a few months ago start to give me a problem with the magnetic brake needing to be maxed out to keep from giving me problems.

So I emailed Lew's and arranged to have my reel maintained. I also asked to purchase the correct star drag so I could make the other reel I had like new. Anyway I recieved a email back stating they did the repairs and these were the charges.

Quote

Labor - $15.00
Return shipping - $5.00
Parts - 50% off
Total fees will not exceed a 1/3 of the retail value of the reel.

Anyway I sent the reel in and shortly there after I got a call asking if I wanted the star drag sent ahead to me and the reel back when completed. I said what ever was easier for you I figured just toss it in the box with my reel when you send it back. So we agreed that would be fine. Anyway 3/30/17 I got my reel back and the new star drag. The reel works flawless and it has a completely new side on it. I also got the new star drag in the box and installed it on my other reel and it cured the funky optical illusion that was going on there. But there was no invoice of any kind. I sent a email to them asking about the billing.

Sir I received my reel back yesterday. I really appreciate it as tomorrow I have a trip scheduled for Lake Fork. Thank you and the guys who got it back to me so quick.

I did have a question as I have not seen a invoice for any charges? There was only a packing slip inside the box. Is there a bill coming in the mail at a later date?

Thanks

And this was their response.

No sir. I assume the repair technician decided to waive any fees. ?

Thanks, good luck, and catch some big ones!

Just thought it was a very nice gesture for Mr Norris to allow this to happen.

I just felt they deserved a big thank you for the fast, and free repair, and star drag.

I have never had anything but the best experience witu their customer service. Im very happy to that we have had similar experiences, both as a collegiate representative of Lews and as a salesman who pushes their product.

They realize a good gesture like this will echo for a long time in the community.

I will be purchasing one in the future for a rod  built by DVT

I fish with Lews reels only because I love how they operate. Whenever I send mine in to have check up the most I have ever spent was $3.00. Talk about quality customer service with a quality product. I have never had any issues with their customer service! Great people over at Lews.

What did you get and how are you using it?

I have a Lews custom speed spool on a St Croix Tournament 7 ft MLF.

I am not smart enough to know what I am supposed to be using it for so I do a little drop shot with it, small spinner baits and even unweighted plastics.

20# Power Pro with a 15# Seaguar leader.

I am too old to live with convention so I do what feels good!

that's awesome. most of my reels are from lews and after 6 years of fishing with them, I have yet to have an issue. good to know that if I do, I will be taken care of fairly if not beyond fairly.

Too bad I didn't get this guy when my Speed Spool needed a new spool... :/
$20, 5 phone calls, 10 emails, and a year later the spool still hasn't showed up.

Maybe I called a different Lews.

I'll echo their great customer service. I broke a piece in the left side plate when doing maintenance (a stupid mistake on my part forcing something without understanding how it worked fully) on my LFS so I called them up to get a replacement fully prepared to buy it off them. The lady that answered quickly found the part and told me there would be no charge. 2 days later I get a first class package with not only the part I needed but the entire assembly containing the part.

They make a solid product. I don't think they are as sexy as most comparable Shimano or Daiwa reels, but if you need something to make 10,000+ casts a season with no issues they will do that.

A Tournament MB with some ABEC-7 bearings in it is a pretty hard setup to beat for under $200.

This is great! I've had this level of service from Daiwa as well. Abu-Garcia doesn't answer the phone, return messages or, apparently, even monitor their email. In those instances, BPS rod and reel repair does good work, for usually about $20.

I have two Tournament MB's as well. I liked the first one so much I bought a second. It's a lotta reel for $120.

Good thing you never had trouble with automobiles when there was just Ford's Dodge and Chevy (GM). You might have been walking. :P

Good to hear , I got an LFS as my first baitcaster. I got to use it a few times last year, I'm pretty happy with it. I'm planning to pick up a tournament mb soon.
