Are the Megabass 110 jerkbaits worth the $?

I don't have a problem spending the $7 to $8 they charge for a pack of senkos because of the confidence I have using them. But I was wondering does spending $25 on a jerkbait give you extra confidence to fish a Megabass when you could buy 2 Duo Realis or 1.5 Lucky Craft for the same cost? I've done some research on the MB jerkbaits sounds like the biggest issue is the bills breaking off. Are they worth the price?

What drives me away from expensive jerkbaits and swimbaits aren't because they aren't "worth it", it's because of the waters you and I would be fishing.  Pike eats, destroys many of my baits.  That is the number 1 issue I won't get a 110.

Yep musky could definitely be a factor when using that $25 jerkbait.

Short answer is yes, well worth the money to me based on the catches I've made on them on my waters. That said, the bills and body are fairly delicate, especially in cold weather and water. Have now broke about half a dozen including two already this year. Also would think twice if pike and musky were very common in your waters.

Ouch! How are they about replacing the broken ones? Or are you eating the cost?

As we anglers all know, 'confidence' plays a leading role in fishing.

If a particular lure enhances an angler's confidence, it becomes a question of how much

he’s willing to pay for 'confidence'. It's a self-fulfilling prophesy though,

because if the lure doesn't live up to expectations, then price tolerance will quickly dry up.

I'm eating it ? Most have been my own fault. You can't bang windshields, throw them on rocks or docks, slap weeds off them against the water, etc. like you can do other jerkbaits. Only 1 or 2 were questionable lip breaks.

You don't always get what you pay for... For example.. designer brands of clothing etc, can be some of the cheapest made stuff on earth (and some of the most expensive!).   2 instances, from 2 different companies... My lady wanted this coat from one of em. Cuz it has their stupid symbol on it , and guess what.. within a week the zipper mechanism jammed and literally broke. You could argue this was operator error, but she's a grown woman, has many coats that lasted many years and the zippers work great. Another instance was from another company and was a purse. Again, she wanted it because a stupid symbol on it and since it's so expensive it must be worth it... The seams that held the bag together came unravelled in less than a month.. and she was done with designer. I wish I could be specific because these items were not knockoffs. They were certified from an approved retailer. But all we really got was certified junk. 

 

Spend 25 on a jerkbait.. I lose several a year and do just fine with my x-raps . And if purchased selectively I can have about 5 for that price. 

 

I for one, like catching pike. They are a freshwater barracuda and I admire their existence. I've also hooked a 22" largemouth with an x rap and I don't get to fish more than once a week on average. And usually in a Jon boat, kayak, or bank fishing with no electronics but a simple depth finder. If I can make due , so can anybody ! 

 

If money wasn't an issue, I would get some just cuz I could. But since it is an issue , I'll pass and continue to catch bass on other jerkbaits

No. Bass will eat a Rapala just as quick as they will eat a megabass. They don't know what a brand is. They are just fish. We are the ones that get caught up on having the best and most expensive baits, rods, reels, boats, etc.

Yes they are awesome.  I have quite a collection of them.  When I fish in MN and pike are around I use the rick clunns.  Otherwise, GP pro blue 110 is my favorite.

check out the Duo Realis line of jerkbaits , very , very good baits and about $10 cheaper ...

Suspending Roges started the jerk/rip bait lures followed by Rapala Husky jerk, both worked. Then Daiwa minnow changed everything followed by Lucky Craft Pointers, they worked better than the domestic jerk baits. These lures continue to evolve and so have the prices continue to go up. I stopped at the LC Pointers and still use them because you don't lose them unless toothy fish bites it off. Strike Kings KVD and new Rapalas offer good choices at under $10, Several at $15 and the top end at $25, all catch bass.

Was at Cabelas last weekend and they some Megabass 110 for $16.    I was going to grab some as I had read about them here, but they also had Lucky Craft pointers for $5.99.    I bought those for 1/3 the price.

Yep my last 3 lure purchases have all been Duo Real is lures I got a 100, 120 and 68 lipless.

"Worth it" is as individual as favorite color or kind of pizza.  One man's lust is another's loathe and this will always be true.  

 

The 110 is an extremely erratic ripbait.  Whether you want to fill your box with them or you just want a pair in your most confident colors, it's an action worth having.  I've had days nothing else could get a bite but that tail whippy, super erratic twitch made it happen.  It's not every day but it happens. 

 

It's always interesting to see how many feelings people carry around about things though.  Megabass threads never disappoint!

Thanks for your point of view. My only hesitation is that I fish musky infested waters. If I can get them on sale I think I'll grab a couple nice colors like you suggested.

i have a small variety of jerkbaits, but that includes some 110's and 110 jr's.  they work, but that's not to say other baits don't work.  if i'm just junk fishing for fun i'll throw some other brand that may be cheaper and easier to say goodbye to.  same goes if i'm fishing somewhere that's really snag happy.  i've had a bill or two break, but i just write it off and move on.  and i've had bills break on other brands as well.  i like senkos too, but just last week i went through 2 bags in about 2 hours at the pond and that was even using the heat shrink tube on them.  but at that rate i'll pay for a 110 jerkbait in about 4 hours and i'll expect that jerkbait to last MUCH longer than the senkos!

all that said, i don't fish around any toothy dinosaur fish so that would definitely be a different factor i don't currently have in the equation!

I have about a dozen 110 & 110+1 in my jerk bait stash. Believe it or not they are not my go to bait under most circumstances. I would suggest you get two duos realis for the price of one 110.

Just bought another Duo off Ebay today, now I have a 100, 110 and 120 to try for this year.

I've only got a couple 110s, but I have one in French Pearl that is my absolute go to in low light conditions. I've caught more fish on that bait than any other single bait in my tackle box. I've heard a lot about bills breaking, but this one has held up for years now.

 

So I'd have to say yes, they're worth the money. That said, I like the Rick Clunn STX very well too, I just change the trebles on them. If not for the STX, I'd definitely own more 110s.

Are they worth it? I'm about to find out. I bought my first 2 110's this winter and they will be the first baits I throw in about 3 weeks. I've also wanted to try the Ima Flit. They have some good write-ups and aren't too expensive either.

just tested the KDS 110 bait ( i know there is another thread about this bait ) and i am VERY impressed !!!

the bait i got suspends perfectly horizontal and was impressed that it rests nicely on its hooks without rolling over . needless to say , i will be ordering a few more this weekend . just wanted to add this so you have another option as i received mine for $7.42 delivered !!!

 

 

i just bought 2 more KDS 110's in Real Shad two minutes ago ! yeah , they're pretty good .....  toal price was $12.55

I like them a whole lot. The colors are great, the action is great, and they cast a mile. The hooks they come with are something else too, I think there are a lot of jerkbait bites on a slack line that we never see, and the razor sharp, thin hooks with an outbarb combat this.

 

If bass can eat and reject a crankbait without us knowing, they can probably do all kinds of stuff on a slack line.

How it suspends will depend on water temperature , hooks and line type. But I like what you're sayin!
