RHuff Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Fished all day yesterday with no bites except a little guy on a shadow rap shad jerkbait that wasn't much bigger than the lure. Fished shallow, fished deep, fished grass, fished timber, fished humps, fished dropoffs. I threw everything I could think of and just couldn't seem to get bit on anything. As a last resort I decided to tie on a casting jig with brown/green/red skirt and a rattle. Also added a matching brown rage tail chunk trailer. Found a nice protected pocket right off the main lake. Casted a long cast parallel to the mouth of the pocket about 10 yards off the shore and let it fall and then hopped it. Nothing. Casted it again right through the middle of the pocket and this time gave it a slow drag on the bottom. BOOM. Not a huge bass but a solid bass for WV for this time of year. 2.2lbs. She smoked that jig for all its worth. Great ending to a slow day. 9 Quote

cpvenom Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 One of my goals for this year is to be more proficient with the jig, and I too have started to really love them. The key for me have been a few trips where I only took jigs. It really forces you to pay attention when you have no other lures to use. 1 Quote
RHuff Posted April 3, 2017 Author Posted April 3, 2017 I caught bass on this exact same jig in January in Georgia so its worked in two different regions of the US so far.. Quote
Senko Junkie Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 I have tried Jigs with Crawfish trailers for many years now with no luck until..........................Sunday. I finally caught my first bass on a jig/trailer combo. By no means was it a monster but it sure made me smile. Strike King Rattling Jig with Strike King Ragin Craw in Black/blue. I might start putting more of these in my tackle box. I tried everything in my tackle box and this was my only bite on a tough day 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 5, 2017 Super User Posted April 5, 2017 Starting to fall in love with the Jig You will get over it! You'll become obsessed! 3 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted April 5, 2017 Super User Posted April 5, 2017 The jig is hands down my all-round bread and butter bait. I can't remember a fishing trip in the last 4 months where I haven't used it. I don't claim to be an expert, but there are lots of us who are jig addicts and I've certainly brought in some toads on them. Now just wait till your first jig tackle order. You can ask @kickerfish1 about those 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted April 5, 2017 Super User Posted April 5, 2017 A day like that ranks right up there with a Personal Best, which in one way or another it was. Those are the days that keep us coming back for more, like a crack addiction. Roger 2 Quote
Jaderose Posted April 5, 2017 Posted April 5, 2017 Wish I could get there. I just have NO confidence in the jig. I KNOW it works.....just not for me.......yet. Quote
