Trouble with Flourocarbon memory

Bought some Sunline FC Sniper a few weeks ago and I'm already having trouble with it coming off in tight coils. Is this the norm with fluorocarbon and if not how do I solve the situation.

Try using some line conditioner.  KVD has some good stuff.  That's all I've used.

Sounds like a spinner caster situation.

Many over fill the spool.  Keep a solid 1/8 of space.

Line conditioner is your friend.

Flip the bail by hand

If you have a boat, take off the terminal tackle and let 100 yrs unwise itself while troling.

When responding use a cloth first strait with kvd conditioner.

 

If this doesn't  work, go braid with leader

Sniper and Tatsu are the two most user-friendly FC lines IMO.  If they don't work for you, best advice is above to use braid and tie on a FC leader.  Yozuri Hybrid as a main line can work too depending on what you are using it for.  It's a compromise between FC and mono son o leader needed.

Kvd line conditioner and use it regularly and liberally. 

Other than that just make sure its spooled correctly from the beginning with the fresh line coming off correct side onto reel.

I feel that life is too short to waste time trying to find the right FC, or even using FC as a line.  Too many disadvantages.  So I only use it for leader, and prefer the saltwater hard leader material.  Many have made it work, but not I.

Nature of the beast!  Comes pouring off of a spinning reel like a liquid slinky, even when the bail is closed.  On a baitcaster it is worse!  Not a fan!

I only recently tried some 15lb Seaguar Red label on a baitcaster and found it works fine for that even with no KVD line conditioner. I forgot to use it. When I saw it in my bag I thought it's been working fine no need to spray it now.

 

I also tried some 12lb Seaguar Red label on a spinning reel as a leader material and it worked fine. Never have I tried fluorocarbon strait on a spinning reel or as a leader I was just experimenting.

 

I don't think 15lb and up would be very good on a spinning reel just based on my limited fluorocarbon experience. It has a wire type feel to it.

 

Braid is just too easy to use for spinning reels for me. I don't deal with a lot of problems like others with toothy fish and tons of rocks etc so I will stay straight braid most likely. If the OP waters allow it I suggest using braid it's much easier for me.

If it's jumping off your spinning reel when you flip the bail, it's because you spooled the line on backwards (9 times out of 10).

I put FC on a spinning reel last spring. Plenty of space left on spool.  Guess I'm a noob cause I didn't like it either.  

 

Actually cast a Ratltrap then trolled it 100 yards to get out twist.

 

Do They "condition" this chit before hand?  This is getting ridiculous

I find that you need to remove the lure so that the.line can relax and untwist. A rattle trap or other lures will try and track like they are supposed to upright holding the line twisted.

Welcome to FC. Spool size, and line diameter will matter most.

KVD L&L is required equipment for all my fishing. Sunline Sniper shouldn't bee too bad, even without line conditioner.  Did you overfill the spool?  I generally only fill my spinning spools about 2/3 full when I use fluoro.

You haven't given us much to go on here.

 

Your description sounds like a spinning reel, but you don't mention # line size which is important, and how you spooled the fluorocarbon. There are a couple of articles here on how to remove line twist. And as also said above, don't overfill the spool.

 

To answer what I can, YES Fluorocarbon is wiry stuff in large pound test. but in 6#- 8# can be quite supple. A couple of things like pointed out above, line conditioner can be very helpful.

 

Another option is to use 10-20# Braid with a leader on spinning gear, I find this a pretty good option.

Seeing as it hasn't been asked, what lb. test did you purchase?  I find manageability problems begin with 12lb. and only get worse. Yes, it's stiffer than mono and yes I hate it, but it has it's advantages, so I treat it like some presentations I'm not too fond of.

I've yet to find a reason to go full FC, but I'm usually in a kayak or wet wading and my rods are limited. Full FC means you cant throw topwaters. I use braid on all my setups then add a FC leader when necessary. No issues with line jumping off the spool and I still have all my options as to what I throw.

Nope, not my first rodeo.  Probably my spool was too full, but I decided that braid with leader made my life much less complicated.

This is great info.  I tried for a wile with KVD conditioner but just to much memory so went to braid with a leader.  Much happier now.
