northgabassfisher Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 in a another year or two I will be getting a new or newer bass boat, Ive been looking for something that rides good in coppy water but still fast, I know you cant catch bass going 80mph but I kind of like to fast LOL. but I came across stroker boats and they seem to fit my needs but Ive heard the kind of lack on the top speed, so if any one has a stroker bass boat I would like to know the pros and cons. or if there is another brand that you would could suggest that might fit my needs. Pa Angler Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 Go to their website these boats have been known to hit 100mph with a 300hp Mercury outboard. Also Bullet and Allison are made for speed as well. If all out speed is what you want. They do come with a high price though. www.strokerboats.com www.bulletboats.com www.allisonboats.com Quote
Super User cart7t Posted October 15, 2006 Super User Posted October 15, 2006 Stroker boats ARE NOT slow boats. Quote

Speed and good ride don't necessarily go together. Charger makes a great boat. They've been around since the mid 70's. I bought a new one in 1978. Their interior storage is well thought out with every square inch of space properly utilized. An outstanding rough water boat but a little on the slow side. If that 250 opti was on the back of a 595 Charger, the boat was unloaded, very little gas in it, the proper prop and setup, along with the right chop on the water and a stiff tailwind, I suppose that combo could scare 80 on a GPS. I doubt it though. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted October 16, 2006 Super User Posted October 16, 2006 In bass boats, the fastest boat with the best ride is an Allison but you wll pay dearly for one. The next fastest are going to be your Stroker and Bullet but neither will have the ride of an Allison. Between the Stroker and Bullet, I think the Bullet is a little faster in the 20' models by a couple of mph. I think either are capable off 100 mph speeds with 300 SX Mercs, running light with the right setup but the Stroker might be a little harder to get into the tripple digets than the Bullet. Paul Nichols has had a 20' Bullet at 119 mph with a 390 hp JSRE built Merc on the back. As for ride, compared to Stratos, Champion, Ranger or other good riding boat, neither of the two will begin to compare. Any one them will take you a few months of seat time before you can air them out. You will not just jump in a go hauling a** down the lake. I had a friend that sold an Allison with a 300 SX because he never could learn to drive it. Kept swearing there was something wrong with the hull/setup, yet another friend that has one could drive it with no problems. Also knew a guy that bought an Allison and four months later his wife was a widow. These boats are not something you can just jump in and go fast. Quote
northgabassfisher Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 cart7 not to sound like a smart a@# or any thing but I think he had the 496, but I dont think a foot shorter would make you got that much faster. yea I wasnt realy wanting to go 100mph + it would be nice but I would just scare the crap out of my self going that fast. I was wanting to go high 70's-mid 80's Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted October 16, 2006 Super User Posted October 16, 2006 there are a whole bunch of the newer 20/21' bass boats (if not all) with max hp on the back will get you into the 70's and many will give you a great ride. When you start wanting to get into the 80's you will have to give up a lot of ride and the number of boats get much smaller. I think the Gambler is considered the best riding boat (other than the Allison) that will run in the 80's. You can count on one hand the bass boats that will get you into the 90's. On word of caution/advise. If you get one of those Hydro-rockets, you will never be satisfied. You will constantly be spending money trying to get another mph out of it. Seen and done it too many times. Quote
northgabassfisher Posted October 17, 2006 Author Posted October 17, 2006 what about the stratos 201 they good in chopy water I know that they make a super package or something like that that comes with a 300 hp, but it says that max hp is 250??? , sorry if im being annoying I just want to get the best boat for my needs. thanks agin Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 The 201 is a very nice boat and yes has a good ride in rough water. Probably not the ride of a Ranger and a couple of others but you would have to be in some very rough water to notice a difference. I don't think you will find a dealer putting a 300 0n the back of one. I built a 200 Venom putting out 280 hp that is pushing a 94 201 at 78.4 mph with me and the owner in it, (both about 220 pounds) and a full livewell. With the 225 HO they will run in the mid 70's The fastest of the Stratos's is the ASX they made for a short time but the slow down greatly with a full T-Load. The 201 carries a load very well. Quote

I was wanting to go high 70's-mid 80's Chargers are not known for their speed. In fact, they're one of the slowest boats out there. It has nothing to do with the hull design or that the boat is flawed, in fact it has to do with the fact that they're a much heavier boat than most others on the lake. Charger still uses a wood transom and those suckers have a 4 inch thick transom! That's a lot of weight right there. There hull construction is sort of old world too though it's a very solid boat. The weight is part of what makes the boat ride so well in the rough stuff. The sacrifice is slower speed. The 496 is a 20 1/2ft boat. I think they rated it for all V6's. If you're looking for a boat with well thought out storage, a great rough water ride but don't care if you're at the back of the pack on tourney takeoffs then get a Charger. If you want more speed but still want rough water handling get a Stratos or Champion. If you want to go fast, get a Blazer, Bullit, Stroker or Allison. Just know you have to know how to drive those boats. Quote
northgabassfisher Posted October 17, 2006 Author Posted October 17, 2006 Just know you have to know how to drive those boats thats the next step my uncle works on outboards and wires up new bass boats and other boats so I am going to take him with me when I go test drive all these boats. thanks for shearing your knowledge with me, about the hydro rockets LOL Quote
cravenfish Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I'm just going to put in my $0.02 worth. If you want a fast boat, get an Allison. If you are a fisherman and want a good boat for tournaments and a safe ride then there are plenty to make your pick from. If you are going to tournament fish, get a single console and a 20 or 21 footer. The Allisons are fast but the lay out stinks and they dont fish real well. The Bullets seem to be a boat that was never finished( they seem to fall apart ) Then you have Ranger, Skeeter, Champion, Triton, and Bass Cats which all seem to be good fishing machines and I have fished from all of them. I own one of the above and I dont want to seem bias,so I'm not going to say which one. If I were you, I would go to all the dealers and set up a test ride, don't just ride, stop the boat on a wind blown point and put the trolling motor down and see how the boat behaves( this is how you will be using the boat most of the time ). You have all the time in the world to make a good choice for yourself. Good Luck Quote
