I've been using a mojo glass rod for my chatterbaits and the glass really does make a difference in my opinion. I've briefly used a 765cb glass, and I'll be borrowing it for some more "rigorous study." But what are your opinions on the glass rods for chatterbaits? They make them in 7', 7'3" and 7'6", and in both 5 and 6 powers.

I have a 7'0 H glass Powell max I used bladed jigs on for the past few years and loved it.  I just bought the 736 glass as a replacement.  It'll get its first usage this coming weekend.  Can't wait.

Let me know what you think! I'm questioning if it's gonna be too heavy for a 1/4 chatterbait. And I don't fish much grass in Illinois, so I don't need a heavier rod.

You happy with the length? And are you happy with the heavy, or would you prefer the MH 735?

It's actually not as stout as I thought it was going to be.  I've never thrown a chatterbait under 3/8 oz but I just got a couple 1/4's in my last TW order.  I'll chuck them a little and let you know how they feel.

One nice thing right now is Gary has some factory brand new mislabeled Champion 735s and 736s. The only defect on the rod is their mislabeling.  They come with full Dobyns warranty same as any new rod would have.  Their price is $170 instead of $240.  Ter anglers I know who have purchased them are smiling big time.

I picked up the 736CB this winter for a great deal from the Dobyns factory...

 

I haven't fished it with a chatterbait yet, but I normally throw 1/2-3/4oz chatterbaits because I prefer the heavier size for getting them deeper, and then controlling my depth with the reel speed and rod tip. I'm not sold on the glass being better for chatterbaits, but I knew this rod would work well for my larger cranks/squarebills as well. A lot of people swear by a 7'3" heavy glass rod for chatterbaits (including Hite), so it must work well for it. 

 

For reference, my 736CB weighs less than a half ounce more than my 735c. Pretty impressive for a glass rod when compared to a comparable graphite rod. 

 

If you primarily fish with 1/4oz. chatterbaits, I'd go the 735cb route.

I've been using the D765cb glass this weekend. It's a bit too heavy in my opinion for a 1/4oz chatterbait. I wonder what difference the extra 3 inches makes? I think I'll just end up buying the 735cb glass.

I actually threw a 1/4 oz Phenix vibrating jig on the 736 Sunday.  Only had five bites on it and landed 4.  Nothing big, all around 2lbs.  It's definitely more stout than I originally thought but I liked it a lot.  No issues for me.

As far as I am aware, they only offer composite rods?
