Sunline Super FC Sniper VS Gamma Edge Fluorocarbon

I have been reading lots of the threads on this fishing forum over the past few months and it appears that one of the favorite fluorocarbon lines is

Sunline Super FC Sniper.  It comes up pretty regularly. 

 

I also have read a fair amount of good reviews on the Gamma Edge Fluorocarbon. 

 

I am a braid man but since my new purchase of a Basscat boat and a LOT of new high end fishing poles, mostly baitcaster I know it's time 

for me to give fluorocarbon a try and in some instances an absolute necessity.  So my initial plan was to order both of these and let them do the "talking"

themselves to see which is superior. 

 

When I went to order I was VERY surprised that the Gamma was CONSIDERABLY more expensive compared to the Sunline which kind of puzzled me.

Normally we assume  higher price (in this case much higher) equated to better.  I thought it made sense to poll this site to see who used either and hopefully see who used both and how they felt and how they compared.  I do not have a problem with paying the higher price of the Gamma as I love to buy high end gear but if the feedback unanimously states that it is definately not worth it or that the Sunline comes back much more favorably then that will help in my decision.  I did not place

the order yet as I wish to hear from you guys first. 

 

I thought I would state the prices of each just so everyone knows where they stand to one another.

 

Sunline Super FC Sniper  14lb for 200yds is $22  (specs: 14# is .014 inches / .36mm)

Gamma Edge Fluorocarbon 14lb for 200yds is $49 (specs: 14# is .012 inches / .31mm)

 

You would assume that since Gamma is OVER twice the price is must be better, that will make this topic very interesting. 

I see the Gamma is .002 thinner but do not know the breaking strength as that is what it is all about. 

Interestingly enought Gamma has a guarantee that if you are not 100% satisfied that it is the best they will refund your money..... hmmmm....  that's a new one.

Gamma edge is a strong and pretty managable line but has a lot of stretch like invisix and tatsu . best overall line is Sniper ...

Tackle Warehouse has the diameter of the two lines different from you. Sunline shows .0122 and Gama is .014. I use Sniper and really like it, have not used Gamma

Gamma Edge's 14 lb. line is about the same as Sniper in 20 lb.

oops.... I superimposed the two specs.  Good catch...... Yes Gamma is .014 and Sunline .0122.  I should have picked up on that as all the reviews do state that the Gamma is pound for pound "thicker". 

 

I think I will give both a try and see for myself the characteristics of each.  Mind you I am new to fluro so I will not be 

quite as savvy as I have no previous experience so I am just starting from scratch but on the flip side of the coin I also don't have any bias what so every from previous use so I guess that makes me an  "unbiased" expert !!!

You will be better off with Tatsu at the high price point, larger diameter is a simple way to improve physical strength and misleading.

Well we started off comparing Gamma Edge to Sniper then ended up throwing Tatsu in the mix I believe because of the stretch of Gamma comparison ..... Tatsu came into the picture.  So is everyone saying if I should consider Gamma then just go with Tatsu instead  OR just use Tatsu over everything including Sniper. 

 

I do have a 1000 yard roll of Seaguar Invizx 12lb, how does that compare to Seaguars Tatsu. I see Tatsu is more $$$. 

 

I have 4 brand new setups to rig line on: This was my tentative line setup. If you feel I should make a change please advise.

 

Steez SV TWS 7.1 reel on a Steez SVF XBD 7'4" frog rod - Straight braid (65#)

Daiwa Zillion SV TWS 6.3 Reel on Kistler ZBone LEXF 4 Med/hvy fast  7'3" (my all purpose rod) - (try fluoro on this one, 14#)

Abu Garcia Revo Winch 5.5 spd on Doblyns 806CB (my BIG deep rig) (either briad w/floro leader or straight floro 20#) 

Shimano Metanium 6.1 spd on Megabass Orochii Jerkbait rod (braid w/fluoro leader or straight fluoro 12# or 14#)

Many guys use in is as main lines without any problems and it is a great product.  Having 1000 yrs would definitely influence my decision.

I would put in is in the same category as shooter and sniper and sniper.

My buddies like in is for cranks...no wrong answer, just personal preference.

I have not used Sniper, but I am using Gamma Edge 

in 6, 8, and 10# tests for leaders and have been very

impressed with it. Strong as all get out.

 

Went with the 100 yard spools since I do leader-only,

and the cost was much more do-able for me.
