Brett's_daddy Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 I just received my iRod Fiber Fred's Magic Stick from TW and I opened it and took out the rod. It looks pretty sweet but after looking at the guides are some of them supposed to be straight up and not pitched forward towards the rod tip? I mean it's just the first 3 guides or so and I just wanted to be sure as I can return this for another if it's defective. One other thing that bothered me was one of the prominent things I noticed when I first took the plastic off the rod was a big sticker on the butt end of the rod that read "Made in China"...really, you have to advertise that for the world to see. I know most stuff is made there nowadays but usually it's just printed in small writing somewhere in a nondescript location but this is a big ol' white sticker with red writing on a very visible section of the rod . Super User WRB Posted April 1, 2017 Super User Posted April 1, 2017 Is the end a remove able sticker? The guides should be perfect, if not call TW. Tom Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 1, 2017 Super User Posted April 1, 2017 I test drove iRod Genesis II IRG744C & IRG704C, both had straight up guides. Quote

Brett's_daddy Posted April 2, 2017 Author Posted April 2, 2017 I called TW and the lady I spoke to thought it was fine but said i could exchange it if I wasn't satisfied...I'm contemplating just doing an exchange for a piece of mind and if the 2nd one comes the same way then it must be just the way these rods are made. Super User fishnkamp Posted April 2, 2017 Super User Posted April 2, 2017 Before you do that, take a few minutes and call out to Irod. I have spoken with them in the past and they were terrific helping me decide on a rod. I am positive they will understand what you are talking about. Unfortunately that rod uses different guides than my Genesis II rods so I can not say for sure. Remember to call them sometime after noon( EST) as they are located in California. Quote
Finnz922 Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 The Fibers have the standard guides for the first 3 guides and the pitched forward for the remaining guides. As far as being made in China. The vast majority of rod companies producing rods under $200 are made in China. Fenwick, Duckett, Abu, *** rods, Megabass XX. Companies do this because it is more cost effective. I know Matt stands behind his rods and I currently own 3 Fibers, 703, 744, and 754. All are awesome rods for the money. I also own the Genesis 2 and Crusher series and both of those are made in China and they get prettier, have higher quality components, and are nicer rods the more money you spend. The Air's which are $250 are made in Korea and are Irod's high end rod. There are other brands that make their rods in Korea, Mexico, and some like Falcon and Kistler who have figured out how to make rods in the US and keep the price point down. Quote
