I'm looking to add an electric boat anchor winch to a pontoon boat. I have been looking up the trac and minn Kota anchor systems. After thinking about it and looking at prices of regular winches they are cheaper and can handle a lot more weight.

Have any of you have used a regular winch for this purpose instead of one of these package electric anchor systems. If so, do you think they offer any advantages over modifying a standard winch? Also I would be interested to hear if any one has any experiences with any of these systems. Thoughts, comments, suggestions all appreciated. Thank you

I don't, but my buddy does and it works great.

Not perfect in real windy conditions, but most of the time it is fine.....especially when he is solo

I've hauled anchor rode most of my life, and enjoy the respite I get from an electric anchor.

I'm currently using a Minn Kota 12-ft Talon, and luv'n it!

If you often deal with water depths greater than 12 feet,

then naturally you'd want an anchor & winch system.
