the grey Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Hi there, I'm looking for a largemouth bass to mount for a friend of mine. Looking for a bass around 5lbs and around 21". If someone has one they could catch for me that would be truly special. She had a stroke over the winter and it would be real cool for her. Maybe you have one in the freezer even? thanks everyone Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted March 30, 2017 Global Moderator Posted March 30, 2017 At one time Bass Pro Shops sold replica mounts, I'm not sure if they still do or not with a look. 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted March 30, 2017 Super User Posted March 30, 2017 Hmm...*opens freezer* yeah I got 10-15 sitting here, lemme mail you a frozen 5lb. bass I'm kidding lol, hope you find what you're looking for. 2 Quote
jakebrake Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 will sound crazy, but, did you try ebay or craigslist? Quote
ethan-333 Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 i would get a replica made. youll never even know 1 Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted March 31, 2017 Super User Posted March 31, 2017 It would be best to get a replica of the bass. 3 Quote
lonnie g Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 nice jesture! hope you succeed in your quest. prayers for your friend as well. 1 Quote
Super User flechero Posted March 31, 2017 Super User Posted March 31, 2017 Get a replica- they don't shrink, stink or rot! Plus in many states selling a gamefish is illegal. I just googled "Largemouth Bass replica mounts" and a ton of options came up for sale. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 31, 2017 Super User Posted March 31, 2017 Welcome aboard! Good luck finding one Have to admit, this is one of the strangest first posts I've seen yet! Is this a bass your friend caught before her stroke you'd like for a mount? Maybe this can get you started: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=bass+mount+replicas&* Quote
the grey Posted March 31, 2017 Author Posted March 31, 2017 Yah I understand it sounds strange lol. But yes this would be a great gift to her. A mailed frozen 5lb bass. A lot of people do have them in there freezers. It is fully legal as long as it is a gift from someone. I'm not asking to buy one, I would buy one if it was from a game pond or something though. Yes she caught one like this but has had a stroke. I went to a taxidermy school a few yrs ago so I can mount the fish for her but not really a replica. Were in Mn so the season obviously isn't open here so that's why I'm reaching out to you bass guys down south a little who are always fishing them. Maybe you could catch me one? freeze and wrap in plastic and maybe a little insulation and ship overnight or 2 day mail and id be happy to pay shipping. Would be great. thanks again Quote
blckshirt98 Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 Replica for sure. I think most people that catch a giant fish nowadays let the actual fish go and have a taxidermist make a replica based on pictures. Mailing dead things, mammals or fish or otherwise is just weird to me. 2 Quote
jr231 Posted March 31, 2017 Posted March 31, 2017 I agree that replica is the way to go... Someone mentioned that you can't even tell the difference. I beg to differ on that. Very easy to tell a replica from the real thing. But as someone else said. Replicas don't shrink or rot. Which is a valid point and I would go this route as well. I stalked a 24" bass last summer for over a month. Knowing she was there. I had all intent on getting her mounted. Once I caught her, I grabbed my bag and my two rods and headed for the truck with her in my hand... And had a sudden change of heart. Dropped my stuff and put her back in the water. In ten years I'll be catching her babies. That will eventually (hopefully) be a hog like her. Genetics play a huge roll in bass size. Just like in most animals. Humans included. Proper environment is also key but a 6 foot man and a 5 foot woman don't typically have a 6'3 son if you catch my drift. 4 Quote
the grey Posted April 1, 2017 Author Posted April 1, 2017 thanks guys but I'm still hoping to find a actual fish for her if anyone is able to get one or have one maybe in the freezer. Quote
CTBassin860 Posted April 1, 2017 Posted April 1, 2017 You could always get one the old fashion way.Go catch one.I honestly dont think many of us keep pond bass in the freezer.I too would look for a replica 3 Quote

the grey Posted April 4, 2017 Author Posted April 4, 2017 I have mounted one 54" for a guy but I don't personally own one. if I can get a pic uploaded I will. I'm still looking for a 5lb bass around 21" if anybody has one in the freezer or can catch me one. thanks Quote
3rdDon Posted April 4, 2017 Posted April 4, 2017 I'm still new here, but this seems like such a strange thing to request If this is real, best of luck! If I could catch anything over 3 pounds, I'd UPS it to you just for the story..."gather round kids. Did I ever tell you about the time I mailed a frozen fish to an internet stranger and ended up on the FBI watch list?" 2 Quote
the grey Posted April 6, 2017 Author Posted April 6, 2017 why would you end up on the fbi watch list? pretty common in the taxidermy world to send frozen fish/animals through the mail and there is nothing illegal about gifting a fish to somebody and you can sell them too if there pond raised. Lakes are froze here in Mn and season doesn't open for months yet. Was hoping for someone down south who catch a lot of bass to have it be no big deal to maybe catch me a 5lber and send me one or possibly one in a tournament died. 1 Quote

Collin W Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 If you are looking for a piece of art, I would recommend getting a wood carving. Most art festivals in your area will have at least one person who does fish carvings. They are expensive, but absolutely beautiful! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 9, 2017 Super User Posted April 9, 2017 Guys read what the OP has said. He is looking for a real fish so he can use his taxidermy skills to preserve it for his friend who has had a stroke. He doesn't want a carving, piece of art or a replica. 1 Quote
jr231 Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Yea I'm never keeping a hog.. unless it was bleeding and belly up. Which I haven't had happen to a big one yet. The only time I keep bass is when someone has a stunted population in their pond... We go wear em out and fry em up. It's a win-win that way. 2 Quote
