Super User Oregon Native Posted March 29, 2017 Super User Posted March 29, 2017 I have two back to back tourneys this weekend on Norris so decided to go up and check out the lake as it has handed it to me many times in the past...especially in warmer months. Well it handed it to me again!!! Started the day with a drop shot smallie and a jerkbait largemouth and thought whoohooo maybe...just maybe....NOT. Fished for another hour and found a floating fish basket with a large bluegill in it very much alive...set him free and thought ok...karma will start the bite....NOT. Fished all day and ended up with one more...bout a 20# drum. Still a very beautiful day....just not a catching day. Tight Lines 5 Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 29, 2017 Super User Posted March 29, 2017 Good report. Even KVD has bad days. Be safe. 1 Quote
Coldbasser Posted March 29, 2017 Posted March 29, 2017 Better pre fishing than derby day. best of luck Fred Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted March 30, 2017 Author Super User Posted March 30, 2017 Went to Melton Hill yesterday and found a large Drum with an arrow near the tail section...tried to get the fish and get the arrow out...after about five minutes of try to play catch he just went down.... Oh....fishing was not bad...just no biggies Quote

Super User Oregon Native Posted April 2, 2017 Author Super User Posted April 2, 2017 First one is over....weatherman was a bit off but non the less it wasn't a bad day. I went in with zero expectations. In the first hour I had two in the boat for six pounds...one was almost four. Rest of the day...two dinks. Boater had three for eight pounds. Bite shut down for us when the cold front hit in middle of day. Had big fish for the clubber and came in fifth so wasn't bad. Today we will see...it's a team tourney so fingers are crossed. Super User Dwight Hottle Posted April 2, 2017 Super User Posted April 2, 2017 Fifth place isn't too bad. Sounds like you're on the right track. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted April 3, 2017 Author Super User Posted April 3, 2017 Well...fingers crossing did not work. We had two largemouth for a little over four pounds. Took less than ten to win. Had several "just short" fish. But then everyone goes through this who tourney fishes. Was a beautiful beautiful day. Should have spent more time deep but with temps pushing 60 I thought more would be up....NOT. Tight Lines Quote
fishingfuji Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 I've personally had days like this, but even a bad of fishing is better than a good day at work. Quote
Austin11C Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 Hey Oregon Native, I'm somewhat new to bass fishing and noticed you're from Knoxville. I live in Clinton and was wondering if you could give me any advice on places to fish. I regularly fish the Clinch river and melton hill, not so much Norris because I do not have a boat and I've never had any luck bank fishing there. Im new to this and trying to figure out the best spots. I will be getting a boat soon but as of now I'm stuck on land. Thanks. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted April 23, 2017 Author Super User Posted April 23, 2017 Tons of places to fish around here. Watts bar around Kingston...tons of bank room and fish. Melton Hill is a little tougher but the hiking trail by the rowing area in Oakridge can be good or Carl Cowen Park. Quite a few parks on Louden and they have decent access. Check out areas with bridges...usually quite productive. Good Luck 1 Quote
Austin11C Posted April 23, 2017 Posted April 23, 2017 I've caught a couple carp down by the rowing area, and I don't get out towards watts bar too much but there's a place called arrowhead trail down there that I really like to fish. Never been specifically for bass but caught some nice cats there. And I fish loudoun when I can, mostly below the dam but there's a small pond somewhere over there I went to years ago and caught a decent bass and a big needle nose gar. I'd like to see if I could find that pond again. I'm just waiting until I can afford a boat for the bigger lakes around here. Thanks for the advice. Quote
38 Super Fan Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Norris has made me look bad a few times too! Still probably my favorite lake though. Better luck next time! Quote
