Spro BBZ1 swimbait

Hey everyone, just picked up this swimbait and was wondering if anybody has had any experience with it, along with some tips for this bait.

Great bait, I have several and gave out a few for Christmas.

It depends on what model and what sink rate you got. Did you get one of the smaller shad baits or the 6" or 8" trout shape ones?

Is an awesome bait and a great bang for the buck, no matter what style you got! I used to use the 8 in for tiger muskies but had to stop 3 years ago because they literally would inhale the lure deep, I mean deep with the entire bait past the maxillary, so after a couple hard releases I decided to retire them to the bass box. I fish them now once or twice a week and the 8 inch finds a lot of 5-7 pounders which is pretty good here, but fishing big swimbaits is all about targeting big fish the BBz-1 is a great introductory bait to method fishing, I've had both of mine for 8 years. The joints are getting a bit rusty and there ain't much paint left (I've probably spent 200 bucks re painting and making eyes but I cant let em go)but they are workhorses!

I just picked up the 2.5" shad version and am anxious to see how it works!

Lots of experience with the 8" trout and haven't had a lot of success with it. For the price it's a good choice, need to change the eyes and sharpen the hooks. A slow steady retrieve doesn't work well with this lure, stop and go retrieve seems to trigger strike in lieu of followers.

I fished the Spro BBZ-1 in the 6" size, but never threw their 8" bait.

The price is digestible, but lure quality is ho-hum (no surprise there).

Bass tend to lambast this bait, but that's not surprising since bass lambast all swimbaits, hard & soft.

As it happened, I never boated the hippo I was looking for on a BBZ-1, but shouldn't fault the lure for that

Lambast, what do you mean by that RoLo? The bass either is interested or not in the swimbait? If so, I agree. I have all these new 5-6" swimbaits and not one bass to credit any of them. I suckered myself that, yeah; this swimbait will be the hot ticket...I'm still waiting for that "swimbait bass."

I like swimbaiting, but this bait was underwhelming to me. It accounted for 1 5lb fish that was very aggressively chasing big gizzard shad when I pulled the bait past it. It's a good starting bait, but there's much better options out there imo.

I agree with this completely. I've had success on the 6" perch quite a few times. The 8" is a huge bait and the action isn't good enough to really trigger strikes like a good glide bait or a good soft bait like a Hudd.
