BassObsessed Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 I fished Dixon in October and shook my head how small it was and still put out the likes of Dottie. I only caught a few bass but talked to the ranger and was told a 13-14 was caught earlier in the year. Quote
frosty Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Please, I catch them over 16 all the time! Oh, you guys were talking about pounds, not ounces... disregard! 3 Quote

Mike long had close to a world record. I wonder if siemental has anything close to 20? Something Weakley caught that 25 pounder named Dolly there but he released it since it was accidentally snagged. Its highest official weight was a few years before that at 21.7 pounds and when it died a few years after being 25 pounds, it weighed 19 pounds. So he must have caught it at the perfect time if it truly weighed 25. Quote
1234567 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 Mac weakley caught her outside the mouth off a bed so he released Dottie. Jed Dickerson I believe caught her at around 21 pounds and it was certified. I'd have to go back and look it up. I read it years ago. Quote

My top 5 FLMB; 19.3 lbs, 17.6 lbs, 17.4 lbs Castaic. 18.6 lbs, 17.4 lbs Casitas. Still trying for that 20! You gotta live and fish where giants live to catch them. I was blessed to fish Castaic and Casitas at the peak periods during the 80's and 90's. Tom You're still a newbie Tom. Quote

I didn't want the attention or the world record so I let her go. I've never told anybody this story until now. I'm guessing I'll win this for sure! I'll never forget that fish for as long as I live! ? Reminds me of a story. My son and I were fishing and as we trolled past a dock, there was a kid, maybe 10 years old fishing. He was overly excited and proceeded to tell us about how he just lost a largemouth that must have weighed at least 10 pounds. I asked the typical "what are you using for bait?" etc questions feeding into his excitement. He was so excited he had hooked a big one.....Back to reality, there are no 10 pound bass in the lake and bass over 5lbs are rare. Was nice (and funny) to see the innocence of a kid who hasn't yet been tainted by the sport and he was living proof that all fishermen are liars...or are they? Because in his 10 year old mind, that fish weighed every bit of 10 pounds. 1 Quote

Super User Scott F Posted March 30, 2017 Super User Posted March 30, 2017 A few years ago, my wife picked up one of my fishing books that listed the weight records of every state. She saw the Minnesota record for smallmouth was 8lbs. Remembering a smallie she caught on Lake Vermilion MN, she was convinced that her fish was as big as the state record. I showed her the picture of the fish she caught, (it wasn't weighed, but was a fat 18 inches, maybe 4lbs.) but I could not convince her that her fish was not 8lbs. If we hadn't gone to an outdoor show where she saw a mount of an 8lb smallmouth, she would still be arguing with me about the size of her bass. 3 Quote

Airman4754 Posted March 30, 2017 Posted March 30, 2017 The Oregon state record isn't even big enough for Tom to bring into the boat. He would just let it work itself loose at the side of the boat so he didn't have to mess with it. There are tons of bass fisherman, but location and local water will cull out about 95% of them when it comes to giant bass. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted March 30, 2017 Super User Posted March 30, 2017 I am an advocate of recognizing that Florida strain largemouth bass should be a separate record category from northern largemouth bass by using 69-73 lateral line pore scale count to determine the difference. FLMB strain are heavier bodied bass that weigh more than NLMB and weight is what records are all about. Anyone who catches bass of any type anywhere that close to a state record is a outstanding achievement. Tom 7 Quote

For the purpose of discussions sometimes it pays to differentiate between the two. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 1, 2017 Global Moderator Posted April 1, 2017 I'll take that spotted bass spot for a minute until one of the Alabama guys or someone that's fished Bullard's Bar chimes in. A super fat 16.5" 2.90lb spot I got on a jerkbait at Table Rock a week ago in a tournament. 4 Quote

Super User bigbill Posted April 1, 2017 Super User Posted April 1, 2017 In my pic she's 6lb,1oz weighed at the local deli. My pb is 10lbs. I'm hoping I don't have knee surgery this year so I might go fishing. I have a sport model walker with four wheels, brakes, basket and a seat. Non electric. Quote

OCdockskipper Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Can you add another category? I fished the Blanco river in Wimberley Texas, outside of Austin, & caught a few Guadalupe bass in the current where the largemouth wouldn't venture. I'll testify that the largest weighed 1 lb (I believe world record for them is 3 lbs something). That makes me the leader in the clubhouse until some of the Austin anglers start checking in... Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted April 12, 2017 Super User Posted April 12, 2017 i'm coming in to claim that spotted spot @Bluebasser86 !! i know i'd had your mark beat already Clayton, but couldn't find any photos to prove it. Last night i went out and snagged this 3.42 lb spotted beauty! I'd be surprised to find that there's not somebody on here that can smash that. A big Coosa spot, lake lanier spot or a NorCal spot could blow this one out of the water. 4 Quote
