Hoping to get some brief advice on fishing in WI.  I'm headed out there for a week starting Wednesday and my brother-in-law said that the ice was probably out far enough to fish.  Was thinking of filling a 3700 size box and throwing it in my luggage.  Any advice other than the obvious: fish it SLOW, Ned Rigs are bueno, etc?  Not accustomed to fishing anywhere that's had ice on it in the winter.  Colors?

Well, the open season for bass ended on March 4. It will reopen on May 6. Fishing for bass in WI is not legal now.

Can't fish lakes until May. You might be able to find a few rivers that are open year round to be fished but have not seen much on the fishing reports.  Looks like your going a few weeks too early . Sucks man!

Well, dang!  I'm gonna have to remember that in the future.  No season for bass out here so it didn't even cross my mind.  Thanks for the heads up guys.

Hmm, not ALL accurate. Some lakes are not off limits. Fishing is STILL available now. You need to fish the Flowage system. This is open year round and you do not need to wait till the bass opener. Check these waters and see if any are near you. http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/fishing/seasons/yearnd.html

In particular, the main ones nearby me are:

  • Winnebago Waters - Lakes Winnebago, Butte des Morts, Poygan, Winneconne - Calumet, Fond du Lac, Waushara and Winnebago Counties - (motor trolling is permitted)

No need to wait if you are near these waters.
