Wal-Mart was closing out Lightning Rod Shocks today and I got both a 6' and 7' medium spinning rod for $9 a piece!  I could not not buy these!  How do these rods fair?  Most of my tackle is higher end stuff but thought the price was too good to pass up on.  Will these be good backup rods?  Thanks and best wishes on the water!

They are great rods for the money even at the regular price. If I found them on sale for $9 I'd be buying a bunch of them.

Sweet!  I may have to see if they have any more and get them!  I also got Shakespeare Micro Lite Blue combos (spincast and spinning) for my children (4'6" each) for $5 an $9 each for the combo.  If they break them, no problem plus the spinning rod will be a nice native brook trout rod for this area!

No more Walmart bargain posts, ok!? Please, Virginia

Walmarts completely ignore all other states. In FAAACT,

I bet they even check this site for deals elsewhere and

decide NOT to follow suit.

Please!!!

That's a pretty good deal, certainly would have bought them both because I did too as well as a 7' casting rod.  Haven't used the spinning yet but the casting rod is unbelievable for the price, I mean the full retail price at that.

If you are going to get more use the search on the Walmart site and change zips to neighboring Walmarts.  I had to drive about 25 miles but I found the two exact rods you listed for $5, my local was selling them for full retail $39.  Well worth the drive.

@Darren.  Sorry man I thought the same until I snooped around a bit.  On the bright side you're definitely saving money.  With the $1 Gamagatsu hooksRat-L-Traps KVD perfect plastice and the $3 spiderwire braid and Rapalas I ended up spending about a hundred all together.  Never knew saving money would get so expensive.

Wish I would have thought of this before they were gone in my Walmart.

I found a trash can full of rods at one store and they are still full price. :(

same here, what a rip off...I mean why put a bunch of rods in a trash can in the center of the isle if you don't have them on clearance.

That's a great deal for someone that can't drop a ton of money on a few new rods.  But for someone that already has higher end gear, I'm not sure wouldn't be a waste of money.  Spend it on baits, accessories, line, etc., or save it.  I guess I just don't get the "backup" plan.

I did the back up thing last year, getting 2 Halo Twillight rods and 4 SC Rage rods because they were highly discounted.  Now I just have a lot more stuff collecting dust lol.  I like where your head's at.

i thought the same thing. i grabbed like 5 rods and scanned them and all were normal price. give it a few weeks of being smashed around and they wont be normal anymore. i will say walmart scares me as far as rods go. i grabbed a rod yesterday to look at it and the top eye was completely backwards. i mean glued and all.

You suck.  The cheapest they've been in my area was $30.  I think they're a pretty solid rod for the price.

I've spent the most money on rods, my issue is I break them (my fault).  My nieces are also pretty good at it too.  Last year I was looking at the rods I have in the garage and what I paid for them and it made me sick.  If I go fishing with others who aren't experienced fisherman/women I will rig up these rods and not care if the tips get snapped off.

I spend on reels now as the higher end ones I own don't break, or should I say I can't break them.  Just my 2 cents.

Those are "guest rods," not back up gear.  Breakage is 99% user error.  Most better rods come with a good replacement plan.

False!....  In my case it is more like 100% ha ha.  I've only broken 1 rod while actually fishing, the rest freak or just plain dumb accidents, 1 is at the bottom of my local lake.  Yes I've used the Loomis replacement plan for one and it was fair, but then I was without rod for a week.

Agreed on the guest rod, maybe stunt rods at times.  Times I use what I call back up rods are kayaking, camping, or a long hike through thick brush where accidents happen.  I don't fly with nice rods for many reasons, either just a reel in my carry on.

I've heard the action is a little softer than what is listed, any truth to that? Also, what would you all use a MH/F for?
