Daiwa Tatula Casting Rod

I found the 7'1" MH-XF for $99.99, but a check for the store's ratings with resellerratings had me passing this deal up.  Too bad.

I would skip docks all day with my 6'10" MH/F. It has a lot of backbone and no trouble pulling big bass out of weeds as it is and it has very solid sensitivity. I got it for around $110 on Amazon and I don't think I would have gotten anything better for the price, even if I paid full retail. The other rod I would strongly consider for a similar application is the Shimano Zodias -- they run nearly heavy and I gather they have fantastic sensitivity but they're more expensive.

 

I also have the 7'2" MH/R (mod fast) Tatula glass cranking rod and that's a great rod for all moving baits.

Jigs work great on that rod. I have also punched a time or two with it. 1oz and 1 1/2oz. It worked just fine for me. 

I wouldn't throw a hud. I think those things weigh more than 2oz don't they?

The small ones weigh around 2oz, which is the rods rated max. It would be sweet if it could throw a small Huddleston because 7'4" is the largest rod I could possibly fit in my car.

Hey, you feel like the 6'10" MH/F isn't well matched up with a 3/8oz jig? That rod is weighted for 1/4-1oz. Would you say in general that is seems under powered for it's rating?

Under rating? Maybe not, this rod rate 1/4-1oz Lure, I can cast 1/4oz jerkbait all the way to WP 110 no problem. I also use it for 3/8oz jig with rage menace with no problem but like I said it is in the soft side compare to my other MH rod Fenwick Ateos 7’2 XF. I prefer a little bit stiffer tip for jig so Daiwa MH is perfect for 1/4oz Jig.

I think he meant the rating was understated (underpowered), meaning the rod suites better for 3/8oz-1oz lures. My experience with the Tatulas/Zillions are that the lower end ratings are understated on the MH and H power rods. I think they are more true to their power rating in their ML/M power rods though. I have the 6'10 MH/F Tatula, and it's a good all around rod, but doesn't excel at anything specific. I think the sensitivity is just OK. For bottom contact, I think there are better rods at that price point, and you can even pick up a way better used (but almost new condition) rod in that range, $100-$150.
