Hi,

I have a ML/MF-F (it's a MakroCraft Go Emotion, the speed is listed as "Regular Fast") rod with a SV105HS reel on it.  I bought it in the fall to use for small jerkbaits over the fall and winter.  For that I used 10lb floro, first Shooter, then Invisx.  I ended up catching more pickerel then bass but I liked how the floro performed.  The Shooter as a tad stiff but was better when I wanted to throw plastics or a Ned with the same rod.  The Invizx was better all round but a bit less with the plastics, it was harder to feel the Ned ticking off the bottom.

This spring I want to use this combo again for jerks, but also for small lipless cranks, squarebills, and topwater poppers and other small hard baits.  I am wondering if not using mono will hurt me a ton for the topwaters.  I would prefer floro as I very often only have one combo with me and still would like to throw small plastics and the Ned.  Would something like Hybrid be a good compromise?

Also wondering about line weight.  The SV spool helps a ton but I am still a bit gunshy over thinner floro breaking from backlashes.

Thanks.

Im currently using Sunline Defier Armilo for topwater.I love it so far.Casts smoothly, not super quiet but i can deal with that. Not outrageously priced.Use line conditioner because it has a better memory than an angry female.

Why I hit "submit" when I clearly was in the middle of typing my post? :D

Will edit the OP in a sec.

Jerkbaits and crankbaits I use 10lb floro.  Top water, I use 15lb mono.  I like Seagaur.

you're fine with the FC for small crankbaits and jerkbaits but I would recommend using mono or a copoly for topwaters as FC sinks. you could use braid with either a FC or mono leader or go the more "enthusiast route" and get another spool for your sv105 :D

Braid + either FC or co=poly / mono leader if you want to do both top water & jerks / cranks with one setup . Using #10 lb. C-XX co-poly would also work for both .

If copoly will work for both cranks and topwaters I would prefer that over braid/leader.

When I'm limited to one spinning rod, I use braid with a mono leader, and I hate braid with a leader. 10 lb mono would be my second choice, flouro I don't do.

Braid with leader is the answer..it is a compromise, but I think it the best option.........

The next option is just FC, while not perfect for top waters, I rarely see it impending the lures performance.  It barley breaks surface tention

I am also not a huge braid/leader fan and only run it on a single spinning combo.  I would prefer to run floro on this combo as there are pickerel in most of the spots I fish and they seem to love cranks and jerks.  But I have no experience with topwater, so I don't know how important a floating line really is.

I looked up the TT review of this stuff and it looks like just what I am looking for.  I am a KDV L&L believer so I think it is worth picking up a spool.
