pflueger patriach sizes

I thought I might try a Patriarch, but am confused by models.  Is it correct to assume that the last two numbers represent the closest "normal" size?  Like the 9530X is a 30 or 3000 size reel?  Similar in size to a Shimano Stradic 3000?  9540X a 40 or 4000? thanks

Sort of....9350 is closest to a shimano 2500 which is basically the same as a 3000 except 3000 has a deep spool. I found 9335 to be probably like 4000 shimano. 9340 you might be able to reel in some tunas.

9525 = 1000 size

9530 = 2000 size

9535 = 3000 size

9540 = 4000 size

The 25 is going to be slightly bigger than a 1000 and a 30 is going to be slightly bigger than an a 2500 but what BBF said above me is pretty good!

Compare line capacity instead of what ever numbers they use. This way no matter the brand you can get a reel that is the size you want.

Got the 9535, and it's the right size for what I wanted.  Very nice, smooth, reel, drag seems very smooth.  But, it appears to me that the spool lip is farther forward relative to the stem than the Daiwas and Shimanos I have been using.  sort of an uncomfortable reach for the finger.  Hope I get used to it.

I just picked up that very same reel on sale at Cabela's. The braid ready spool makes the line capacity confusing, I have a 30 size Supreme MGX that is smaller but holds 130 yds of 8lb mono while the Patriarch in the 35 is larger but only holds 140 yds of 10lb mono. I will tell you this much, if this reel fishes any better than my Supreme MGX, I may end up using only one brand of reel in the future. I have at least 1 of every major manufacturers casting reels, but the only one I liked so much that I ended up buying an identical model was the Pflueger Supreme XT casting reel, I can see myself getting another Patriarch but I have to use it for a season before making that decision.

i have the Patriarch 9525 and it's the best spinning reel i've used .. .

 

i use 6 lb. braid to 6 lb. Sniper

I put 150 yards of Bushido 15 pound braid on mine, filled it up.  Will reverse it after a year or two.  I'm not sure I get your point, 130 of 8 on a smaller reel and 140 of 10 on a bigger reel?  Isn't that sort of logical?  For what most of us do, 75 is plenty.

I run Pfluegers and most of them are Patriarchs. The amount of hours I put on my spinning reals in a year is extremely high and I've never had even a hint of a problem.

 

I do agree that the 35 Patriarch is a little awkward. I've never been able to figure out why, but now that someone brought it up I see what you mean. It's a great reel though, fantastic shaky head reel.

pretty sure you're gonna love the reel , the 9535 has a strong smooth drag

Normally when you go up in size the line capacity goes up a lot. Take a Daiwa Ballistic, the 2500 has a 170yd capacity of 8lb line, the 3000 size has a 240yd capacity, The Shimano Stradic goes from 140 in the 2500 to 170 in the 3000, that is a 30 yard difference and pretty much what you see from others. If you look at the Pflueger Supreme it goes from 130yd in the 30 to 185 in the 35 size, and that is the point I was trying to make, it seems strange that the next size up reel only holds 10 yds more line but it is because of the braid ready spool, that is what is different.

Just got the 9530 and 9535 

 

Yes, I agree that the 9535 looks akward but I had to get that to balance the Mojo Bass Rod otherwise it would be so heavy to fish on it

Often times just moving the stem back one finger makes it much more comfortable and often helps with rod balance especially with tip heavy rods.
