Abu Garcia Veritas comfort problem

I have the first edition of Veritas bait caster 6"9 and I keep getting blisters or raw place in between the two fingers of the index finger and middle finger with my rod. I do not know if it is the trigger or the rod seat itself. The inner side of my index finger facing the middle finger is a constant soreness. What is a good way to prevent this especially when it is one of those hot summers here in Georgia?

i had the same problem with those rods.  i thought it was probably just the trigger design.  i ended up selling it to a friend that had no problems with it.

I have the 1st gen and ive never had that issue.Maybe adjust your grip?

Certain brands of rods...usually cheap to mid-range (and I'd call the Veritas a solid mid-range rod)...use a type of reel seat/trigger setup that utilizes a HEAVILY curved trigger.  Any many times, that cheap trigger has a noticeable seam down the middle that can rub you wrong (in addition to the curvature cramping your hand up).  For me, this is a 100%, absolute, no exceptions, deal breaker for me.  For the exact reason you described.  I sold off an older IM7 Lightning rod (the best version) that I loved due to this.  Passed up on several other rods for the same reason.  I liked my Mitchell Fulcrum so much for filling one niche that I used a heat gun to soften the plastic, bent it to be more straight, and put on it one of those Trigger Happy comfort grips just to make the rod bearable.

 

To me, this is a no brainer -- gotta ditch that reel seat!  if you go this route, you're lucky -- the Veritas uses a good blank and many people like them, so you can likely sell it easily.

Rather than use a heat gun to bend the plastic, I wonder if you could use one of the grinding stones in a Dremel kit to grind off the offending plastic?

Yeah, I was wondering if I could grind it down or sand it down maybe it would help or maybe wear a certain fish glove or a band-aid in the affected area but I just feel like when I cast sometimes that my hands feel so fatigued that my hands get sore from casting.

My suggestion is to try another brand rod in your local store. You should be able to tell if it feels different but I would bring my reel with me to test it with.  There is another idea too, temporarily install another baitcasting reel on that rod. See if it makes a difference where your hand ends up contacting the rod. Maybe it might help to use a larger or smaller reel on it.

had the same problem with mine. took a deremel to the hook on the trigger and cut it flush. trigger seemed to curve to much. then filed it smooth, no problem anymore.

Yeah don't grip so hard. I have the same Rods. I like them, very good rods

I don't have issues with my Veritas Gen 1, but reel seats are important for everyone for comfort.  I say well it and get a rod that will not give you issues.

How much do you guys think I should sell it for? I really like it but I just scared if I sell it I won't be able afford another one being I do not have a job.

Unfortunately the new ones sell for $79. I just sold my original Veritas for $30 at a flea market.  I was happy to get that much, sorry to say.  Before you do that, try a different reel on it. Sometimes the size of the reel will cause you to hold the combo differently, so you may find it more comfortable.  If you have a buddy, maybe you could try a couple of different ones, if not go to your local tackle store.  I have traded reels around on some of my rods because I repurposed them to fishing a different type lure.  I wanted a different reel with a specific gear ratio on them. It just so happened one reel felt like a better match on a different rod.
