cedar1 Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 Whats the best thing to put in your boat to keep the mice out during storage? Quote
Team_Dougherty Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I have had mice problems in the past. Fortunately it was just nest building and poop. It was easy to clean and no damage to anything in the boat. I found that moth balls spread around where the mice can get is seems to keep them away. Paul Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 3, 2006 Super User Posted October 3, 2006 Sticky traps and a dog food pellet sticked in the middle of them. OOOOOps, PETA won 't approve a sticky trap because it 's an inhumane way to trap a mouse......what do you pefer a sticky trap that in the worst case scenario is going to stick to your fingers or a spring trap that could break your finger if you accidentaly touch it ? :-/ Quote
NBR Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I too have used moth balls which seemed to keep the vermin out. I usually put them in several cans and place the cans around the boat. Quote
Flatfish Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 I was watching "This Old House Classic" and they have a "What Is It" section and had a white strobe light on a chain. Claim's it will keep Squirrels out of your attic, Well it worked, had one in the attic and it only took 2 days and it was gone. Well a mouse is just a smaller version of a squirrel, put a strobe light on a small base and sit it on the floor of the boat under the cover, let it run a couple of hours every week. Might get some interesting call's, Why's your boat blinking?????? Quote
Guest DavidGreen Posted October 3, 2006 Posted October 3, 2006 For winter storage outside. I used mothballs to keep limb rats (squirrels) and mice out from under the boat cover. 1 box divided up put in plastic container without covers, I also used a 5lb bag of charcoal to keep moisture from building up under the cover, split the bag down the middle and place the bag on the floor. In the spring I just uncovered the boat throw away the mothballs and charcoal bag and let her air out... No limb rats, mice, or moldy carpet... Tight Lines All!!! Quote
