Like the title says, chronarch MGL vs Daiwa Zillion SV TWS.... Thoughts? My budget was upped a small bit for a reel.

Let me save you a week.

Some will say Shimano, some will say Daiwa, some will tell you to buy a Lew's.

They will all be correct. Any reel recommended to you in that price range will be awesome and do the job.

Now go buy which one looks cooler to you because that will literally be the only noticeable difference.

Just have to pick my rod now....Down to an Avid X from St Croix,or the Loomis E6X

Avid X easily.  At that price point, the St Croix feels much better to me.  Not a huge fan of the E6X, though I'm a Loomis guy in general.

Having read several other forums on the topic, everyone is going to say the St Croix Avid or the Avid X over the E6X.

Curious, which one did you end up with?

Curious as well. I'm trying to make the exact same decision right now. Leaning towards the Daiwa, but not completely sold yet.

Nice budget.  :teeth:  Personally I'd be tempted to go with the MGL because 1) I own more Diawas than Shimanos and 2) TT gave the MGL an Editor's Choice Award.  However, at that price I don't think you could buy a bad reel...short of the occasional lemon, of course.  The Zillion SV gets excellent reviews as well.  All of which I am sure you are already aware of.  I like to make the suggestion (for this type of question) to pick the reel that interests you the most.  I think you will be happier that way.

I'd choose the zillion sv. I prefer aluminum over composite and I'm a fan of sv spools.

I can only address the Chronarch, owning the Chronarch CI4+ and the MGL.

Both are excellent performing reels, but the MGL is a step up and an incredible reel with the MGL spool for a very fast start upon cast and the micro gears. I am lovin' my 8.1:1 Chronarch MGLs.
