Table Rock

Heading to Table Rock in a couple weeks. Didn't know if you had any advise on baits/color etc.

There are 9 boats or so heading down this weekend from the KC forum.  I'm sure you'll see a few posts in there with some good info early next week.

Kinda depends on what part of the lake. There's been a good swimbait bite on the kietech 2.8 and 3.8. Some also on the underspin.  I think that will last for awhile.

Still some on the stickbait like the Mcstick and Vision 110.

 Up the river I'd try a jig or if we get some wind maybe a spinnerbait.

This is the time of the year for Ol' Ned also.

with table rock being a huge lake you defiantly need to zone it. when i was growing up in blue eye. i had many many days and weeks to map and zone where and when and what to use. i have found that most of the time i was fishing a natural craw jig.

The lake will be on the rise, along with the water temperature. Fish are moving up. As always with Table Rock, don't get married to anything. Make sure you have some Spro RkCrawlers and McSticks, Wiggle Warts, underspins w/ smaller swimbaits, swimbaits on swimbait heads, grubs, Ned Rig, etc.... Pretty much standard TRL prespawn stuff now. As for colors, I keep it simple; crankbaits are some kind of crawfish color with a little orange in there; jerkbaits are 'Pro Blue' or similar when it's sunny and more of a white colored bait when it's cloudy; swimbaits tend to be shad colored; maybe a salt and pepper grub; Ned Rig can be plain ol' green pumpkin.

 

Check back with the reports right before you go down and see what's happening given these changing conditions.

I was down there this past weekend. We fished Saturday in the rain. We fished up the james out of cape fair. probably caught over 70 fish between the two of us but only three keepers that went for 6 pounds which got us 2nd in a 15 boat tournament. We caught all of our fish on a ned rig and a green pumpkin shakey head. First place caught all ther fish on same as well. Hope this helps!

We fished it 4 days this past Thursday-Sunday and won the little tournament we had going with 28.5lbs in 2 days. All 10 of our keepers were on a French Pearl STX jerkbait or 3.8 Keitech on a 3/8oz fish head spin. Flat gravel or sand areas near channel swings or drop offs were by far our best areas. The small pockets with water running in gave up some big fish in practice on the fish head spins but only 2 during the tournament. The small swim bait and grub bite was great and so was the Ned bite, but they weren't the fish we needed. Didn't catch a wart fish in 4 days thanks to all the slime. We fished Aunt's Creek and Kimberling City. KC had more quality bites but Aunt's was way better numbers. It was a blast though, catching 30-50 fish a day for 4 days in a row at Table Rock is something I've never experienced.

A year later...

 

I fish with a club out of Omaha and we had our first tournament of 2018 March 24/25th at Table Rock.

 

Here's a video of 3 out of the 5 I caught the entire day, we were fishing near Mill's Creek: 

Fish #1: Jig; Strike King Andy Montgomery Skipping Jig Blue Craw with Strike King Rage Bug Okeechobee Blu as trailer.

 

Fish #2 and #3: Alabama Rig; Yum Flashmob Jr. Top two swivels removed and replaced with CPS springs. Z-man MinnowS Pearl as teaser baits. Bottom 3 swivels replaced with split rings and swimbait heads attached with Z-man HeadlockZ 1/8 oz. Two outside Zman MinnowZ Pearl and following bait Strike King 2.75" Rage Swimmer in Sexy Shad.

 

I fished a Curve 55 as well almost all day and didn't get a bite on it. My total of 5 fish weighed 7 lbs 15 oz.

 

The boater I was with caught fish on:

(4 spots) Strike King 2.75" Rage Swimmer in smoke (on rock ledge banks)

 

(2 LMB) Zman TRD PB&J on a ned head (under a dock)

 

(2 spots) Double Colorado Spinnerbait Chartreuse (on gravel banks with trees)

 

(1) Spro Rock Crawler Red Craw (on slow sloping a gravel/rock bank)

 

Boater best 6 fish weighed 10 lbs 1 oz.

 

He repeated the same pattern the following day March 25th and weighed 6 fish (our club weighs 6 fish) at 11 lbs 4 oz. With 10-1 the first day and 11-4 the second day, he got first for our two-day tournament (only 6 anglers).

 

I keep dreaming of the day I learn where the big girls swim at Table Rock. Seems like I can only ever catch 1-2 lbers and the rare one that goes over 2.

The best money you will ever spend will be on a guide.. Table Rock doesn't spit out many big fish.

I did hear the big bass deal was won with one around 7.5 on a Rock Crawler caught up the James river.

I certainly plan on doing a guided trip, but just haven't had the time yet.

Table Rock has a bunch of those 12-14 inch fish, but there's certainly plenty of bigger ones in there too. We won our club team tournament there last March with 30 pounds for 2 days and had the big bass of 4.5 pounds. Sad thing is, before the tournament during practice we caught a 21lb bag (I use the term "we" loosely, as all I did was drive the boat and net fish). They were all off the same spot too. It was such an impressive feat that @gardnerjigman retired from fishing shortly after that, I guess figuring he had nothing else to prove

I'm ready to come out of retirement. I think maybe... just maybe I have a few things left to prove. lol.
