CybrSlydr Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Wasn't sure where to put this as I didn't see a forum for apparel and the like - so here goes! Might be trout fishing on Saturday and could be raining in the morning. I don't currently have a jacket I can wear that will keep the wind/water out so I'm asking for your help! Looking around - my God, the price some of you can afford to pay on this gear!!! - shows some absolutely insane prices for jackets. (when I realized you could have over a thousand dollars invested in just a pair of waders and a jacket...) I'm looking at or under the $100 price point. On Tackle Warehouse, they have a jacket that looks like it might fit the bill on sale, but it's XXL (I'm but an XL so far - lol). UnderArmor Storm Surge for like $65. Thank you for your input folks! Super User WRB Posted March 23, 2017 Super User Posted March 23, 2017 Cabela's rain jackets are good and reasonable price range, Rain Stopper is on sale. Tom 2 Quote
Kidflex Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 If there is an army surplus nearby, usually you can get an unused woodland camo gortex jacket and pants for under $100. I used them in the military and still use them now. Works great 1 Quote
BassThumb Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Columbia Men's Watertight II Front-Zip Hooded Rain Jacket. $40 at Amazon. I bought my dad one last season, and it was so much better than my 10-year-old Columbia rain jacket that I bought myself one too. I wear it even when it's not raining because it's terrific at blocking wind. 4 Quote

That's one of the things that set it apart from my older Columbia rain jacket, which didn't breath at all and left my arms sticking to the inside of the jacket. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I have a breathable North Face rain jacket that is killer. It's roomy enough for down underneath if it gets cold, it's comfortable even if it isn't cold, it fits great over waders if wading is your thing, and it packs down tiny. I paid somewhere around $100 for it. I have a fleece lined water proof Cabela's jacket also, but the North Face jacket has completely replaced it. 1 Quote
SneakyPete Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I just ordered the HUK all weather jacket and bib. They were each on sale for $168. They were $224. Search the forum posted a video of a guy testing it out. Quote
uncle reddog Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Check out amazon. They have the frabill F2 surge jacket for $48 and the bibs for $59. My brother just got these and likes them. I think they're regularly $200 or so for each. I have stormr so I can't say personally, but the frabill suit does have pretty good reviews on Amazon. Hope this helps. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 23, 2017 Super User Posted March 23, 2017 Deals for rain gear are out there and bargains are available. HOWEVER - it has been my experience that you get what you pay for. Should you purchase cheap rain gear - that's what you get. Spend the money and get decent gear and it will last for a long time. My Guide Wear was purchased around 2000 and it still looks and works great. I have a medium duty 10X jacket & pants set that still works perfectly and that was purchased prior to the Guide Wear. For summer use - Frog Toggs will last as long as you take care of them and don't rip them up. I'm not familiar with the Simms or Columbia products mentioned in previous posts. 1 Quote

CurtS26 Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Frabil. I also bought the bibs and jacket 87 Bucks Amazon ? Quote
razor6570 Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I have a Columbia set that is great. I was in the same boat as you. Wanted a good set but not breaking the bank. Found Columbia pants for $35 and the Jacket for $35. They were at a local Columbia outlet. End of season clearance. If you look on line you can find the same or close to price on their rain gear. 3dees Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I have a set of Cabela's guidewear. great suit, but a little to much for summer heat. just got Frabil F1 jacket and bibs for 69.00. Simm's, Huk, Under armour not an option. I'm sure they are good suits but I'm not paying those crazy prices. Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 23, 2017 Super User Posted March 23, 2017 Light weight breathable and rain proof = Gore Tex, look around for the best price on sales. Tom Quote
3dees Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 huge sale on Frabil til Saturday at fieldsupply.com Quote
RichF Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Check out Sierra Trading Post. They usually have good deals on really nice stuff. I got my Simms Prodry Jacket on there for $245 and my Simms Contender Jacket for $140. Use this link and it will give you a discount (15 - 25% depending on how much you spend). There are a couple Simms rain Jackets on here, excluded from the extra discount unfortunately, but they're still under $100. http://www.sierratradingpost.com/mens-rain-jackets~d~389/ 1 Quote
Mumbly Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 I use Columbia and it has never failed me. Whether it is my duck hunting jacket or my light rain jacket, it has performed great. If you go the Columbia route make sure you what you buy is Omni-Tech (waterproof/breathable) and not Omni-Shield (water repellant)...huge difference. Quote
AC870 Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Academy's H20 rainsuit is one of the best deals going. Got em on sale for $49.99 month or 2 back. Quote
CybrSlydr Posted March 23, 2017 Author Posted March 23, 2017 Outstanding - I'm glad to see there are actually decently priced items out there. Thanks for the help everyone! Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted March 23, 2017 Super User Posted March 23, 2017 Just got home from Costco and picked up a breathable lightweight rain coat for 20 bucks. Since I only fish in the rain on vacation, I didn't need a high dollar coat, hoping this one will work out for me. 1 Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted March 23, 2017 Super User Posted March 23, 2017 The Marmot Precip can usually be found for under $100 (far under if you don't care about color) and generally gets a lot of "Best Value" reviews from the bigger camping review sites. I have one of them and it is very nice for the money. But, if you, like me, are a sweaty guy, look for something with pit-zips and the most breathable fabric you can afford, it's no use keeping the rain out if you are soaked with sweat. 2 Quote
mheichelbech Posted March 23, 2017 Posted March 23, 2017 Cabelas Rainy River jacket at $129. I've had mine about 20 years and still great. It is gore Tex. Amazingly warm and not too hot for the weight of it. Quote
