Tatula CT Type R 50th

Just received this from the TW sale, and after reading the online description and a few reviews, it's stated to have 13.2 lbs of max drag. The box says otherwise. Just thought it was interesting, 11lbs is plenty. Anybody else notice this?

After 50 years the drag got tired its down to 11lbs from the 13.2 it use to hold when it was younger. 

 

And no I haven't heard of this before so I seriously don't know if it's a typo on the box or if you got jipped on the drag not being 13.2lbs. Does not appear to be a typo though since 5kg translates to 11.0231lbs. Unless the entire weight description is wrong.

This is going to sound crazy, but I would call Daiwa USA and check with them. All of the Tatulas and Tatulas CT versions advertise having the same Ultimate Tournament Drag System  and it specs as Max 6 KG or 13.2 lbs.  I just looked at the boxes my 2 Tatula CT 100HL reels came in and they both specify 6 KG and 13.2 Pounds. All 4 of my Tatula 100 Type Rs say the same.

 

I wonder if it was a "new old stock" reel or a misprint. I believe I would call Daiwa customer service tomorrow and ask. Maybe there was a printing problem, maybe some Anniversary reels were built that way and if so I would explain you would like to exchange your reel for a reel matching the 13.2 spec.

Wait till you hear from Daiwa before I would accept that. If it is true ask aiwa if you can make any changes to bring it up to the 13.  It makes no sense just that one version would be different.

Enjoy the reel and don't worry about it. 11lbs is more than enough for anything bass fishing. Considering a lot of Daiwas only had 8lbs max 'TDZ' and do just fine. You can add another shim under the drag star if you really feel the need to get a little more drag pressure out of it.

I looked for that reel on Daiwa website but that 50th version I did not see. I would have bet money, and maybe lost, that it was the same as the others at 13.2lbs. Very odd if they dropped it back down on a "special" 50 year edition imho 

 

If it was a error or screwup of some sort I would not send it back. Just look at what odd stuff brings years later. Rare odd things can be worth quite a bit if it's stored away nicely. 

 

I agree wait for a official answer from Daiwa.

Very few bass rods can take more than 8 lbs of lifting force, the highest I ever set my drag is 5 lbs, usually lower between 3 to 4 lbs and I am catching DD size bass! If you need more drag pressure use your thumb temporarily. 

Daiwa didn't make an error, that is the max drag they suggest for that reel IMO.

I don't think OP concerned about max drag of his daiwa Ct 50th anniversary, but it is about spec that all CT reel got 13.2 lb but his box stated 11lb max drag which confused him.

i got daiwa catalog 2016-2017, I don't there is spec for 50th anniversary version but will look tonight.
