Anybody seen this thing? I wasn't sure how it would work at first but after seeing it in action it looks like it would be a really effective bait. Who hasn't had a fish blast a popper or just follow it to the boat after giving up on a retrieve and cranking it back in? Seems like this might be a great way to get those fish to commit when they're just following or not quite willing to break the surface to eat a bait, or maybe the bait taking off all the sudden triggers a reaction when they think it's making a run for it. I'm thinking it's one I'm going to have to give a try myself.

Interesting. Looking at the diving lip I would've thought it might dive 8" to 1 ft max. Def could be versatile.

Seems like a cool idea. I use a Jackall Binsky - it does not have a lip so it doesn't dive very deep, but it has a blade on the bottom and a rear prop and I have caught fish while just cranking it back at the end of a retrieve like you described above.

That looks different enough to try, I sometimes fish a J-7 Rapala like that with a jerky retrieve so the lure is constantly breaking the surface and diving.

It's interesting, but not for me.  I work poppers very quickly and I think this would dive to much when I wanted a walking popper.  Also seems like the cupped mouth would catch weeds badly

And I just got done saying that I was done buying for a while.Looks like I lied to myself again. That thing is going to be killer spring through fall.

Sold.  Love the concept.  Pop it and crank over the weeds.  Should be a killer for the fishing I like to do.

I ordered two of them yesterday, one in Bone and the other in X-Ray.  At $10 they are in the middle of the road for pricing and I think I only have a pair of normal poppers in the collection as is.

Great idea. I just built a rod specifically for small poppers, and other small top water baits. Have yet to try it out. This looks like a great bait for my new rod's maiden voyage.

 Nope, I ain't buying it. First the whopper plopper, now this. Nope. No more. I'm out. I'll stick to my rubber worms. They may only do one thing but they do it right and they work.

This makes me sad. When you are done playing with those, I've got some straight from Japan Yellow Magics (before the US licensing deal that ruined them) for you to try right after the spawn.

Hah, I would love to take you up on that!

I only started using hard baits, other then spinners, for bass this fall.  I would use them for perch and stripers but my casting accuracy was not quite up to the task of throwing them around cover in freshwater.  I figured I would start with topwaters and shallow cranks so I can see where I am running them.

Would you be willing to explain your ideal of a rod specifically for this new Prank topwater, I just got one and would like to learn which rod, reel, line etc to use to make this the most effective bait it can be!  Your input would be greatly appreciated!

To me, lures are just tools to perform a specific job you need done under specific circumstances. Trying to combine a hammer with a saw just doesn't do it for me.

Sure, but the guy who first combined a nail-driver with a nail-puller into one tool was a smart guy!

Last Friday, at the Classic weigh-in, I was fortunate to sit next to the engineer who designed this lure.  He was pretty excited about it and mentioned the work that went into it and how he would take Jason Christie's on water evaluation & input to continually refine it.  He was hoping that Christie would have a day like Randy Howell did with his new Livingston bait a few Classics back to give the initial offering a kickoff.  If that happened, he said he would have to call the manufacturing plant and tell them to get ready and hang on...

I think I would attach the crank bait behind the popper, but I'm just spitballing ideas here.

If ever stops raining I'll try the Pranks I bought out tomorrow and try to report back. I suspect the water everywhere will be the consistency of chocolate milk, so I don't think I'm going to have much luck with them.

I was out today for an hour, caught 3, biggest 2 lbs. I brought out some louder and brighter lures than I usually throw, but the water was surprisingly clear. I hate fishing weekends, but I may go somewhere tomorrow.
